>>45029679A game with 150ish regional dex and good variety is possible, it's called gen 1, BW awful Pokemon variety it's not a numbers problem but a bad design problem, the game is very stingy and picky over which Pokemon you can have and see, it tries to keep Pokemon unseen until the last badge something that just doesn't work with a 150ish dex.
It worked wit Rby because first it wasn't a linear straight line and thanks to that players could have almost anything after getting surf (and before that the variety was still good) and also it wasn't araid of running out of Pokemons for the player to see, by the time you hit VR you already have a full of whichever Pokemon you wanted except like 3, there is only 1 new Pokemon in VR and is a legendary, meanwhile BW locks shitmons like Durant, Bouffulant and Heatmor to the endgame when you already have a full team and won't bother with them.
Basically the main reason why the variety sucks so much in BW is because the game is very linear and only unlocks very few Pokemon for each badge
