Hop is the kid with big dreams but low skills. Rather than honing skills toward his dream, he blindly pushes forward, sure he can just muscle his way in with 0 strategy. He's the guy who never went to college and got through highschools with a C average but insists he'd make an excellent astronaut because of his pain tolerance.

Why would Hop have a Zamazenta?
You're supposed to buy Shield so Hop has a Zacian, which makes it even more satisfying to kick his ass despite him having arguably the most OP mon in existence.

This. Most of the people in this thread is basically ignoring Hop’s entire character arc. Everyone likes to battle once in a while, but he realized he was burning himself out in the pro scene, and decided a new path would be healthier for him

Hop's team's theme for the most part is their relative high defensive stats, which is why he has a Dubwool, Snorlax, Corviknight, and his starter is Rillaboom according to Gotcha!. Zamazenta makes more sense for Hop's team.

Hop was completely gung-ho about becoming a trainer and beating Leon before he even got his first Pokemon. Hop was also obsessed with battling since he recorded all of Leon's matches and studied them like crazy. His dream in Twilight Wings was to take on the league with Wooloo at his side. Hop's issue is that he's limited in talent and would never be the prodigy that the player is, so after their last battle in postgame Hop decided that if his dream of being champion wasn't possible, that he'd become a professor instead.

All the rivals ended up settling for what they could get once you became champion instead.

Bede - wanted to become champion but settled into being the fairy type gym leader.

Marnie - wanted to become champion but settled into being the dark type gym leader which she had previously refused due to wanting to be the champion.

Hop - wanted to become champion but settled into being Sonia's assistant in the hopes of eventually becoming a Pokemon professor.

Hau’s a good lad who genuinely likes MC as Champion and spends his days hanging out and eating Malasadas.

Hop left battling and creates BROWNED /ss/ content with Sonia as her assistant.

They’re doing fine, in fact, MC helped their rivals realize that battling was a lost cause for them and encouraged them to pursue their own interests.

Holy shit when I saw that my heart dropped I didn't even fucking invite Leon to justify this happening. Even with Zacian Leon beats his brother

The other Gym leaders go back and forth too I believe but I'm pretty sure Piers is the only one who can actually defeat Raihan out of the original 8 leaders.
