Thanks for reminding me that this card exists, it was one of my absolute favorites when I was I child! I remember trading it for a Neo Genesis holographic Bellossom but don't really remember why. I'll have to live with the remorse forever.

If I'm interested in older sets for buying packs and in general chasing cards that may not be rare, but just interesting for the time (e-reader, delta species, etc) are there specific sets that won't break the bank? Or are they all pretty high thanks to the current trend?

Well, haven't really touched a set since Shining Legends. Any from pre-Gen VI or more recent worth looking into for beautiful/unique card art?
I might still look into Wizards-ex out of curiosity, I know my local shop does carry a variety so who knows, they might not be too shitty on price but that's unlikely.

if you're looking for boosters, of course, that's out of the question unless you're swimming in money
some dppt sets, however, are very underrated in terms of art imo. Try something like Secret Wonders, Majestic Dawn, Stormfront, Great Encounters and Platinum:Arceus. The holos in these sets are just phenomenal, and they shouldn't be too expensive (yet)

They ruin the design of the card type it graces It ruins the point of full art supporters as they are meant to have backgrounds. They ruin full art gxes as the the full art gxes were great at their simplicity destroyed by the rainbow. And vmaxes kinda suck either way but the normal art looks better.

I have a japanese gym heroes almost complete set, included with banned misty and others, the holos from that set are pretty close to mint, and same with a lot of cards.

However mint to me is literally 10/10 and it's hard for me to say that, some of the cards do have 1 white edge mark visible on the back automatically putting it to 8-9 if everything else is correct. I can say with confidence though most of my whole collection would grade 7, a lot of it 8, and perhaps some 9s and 10s. As a kid I didn't play with most of these, just put them all in a binder so they're in great shape.

So we all know this recent price hiking is going to crash, but what do you think will happen after that? Isn't this ultimately bad for collectors? After people buy up a bunch of cards at these grossly inflated prices, I don't see them turning around and selling them at a loss anytime soon. Yeah but there would be some pretty obvious differences, they'd have to get rid of the WOTC copyright info on the Base to Expedition stuff, the cards would definitely feel different (atleast for the pre-gen 4 stuff and especially the WOTC stuff), the WOTC cards would probably be just as shitty to get a hold of but gen 3 and 4 would be far easier to get.

Just got sleeved up and packed all my remaining shattered glass effect and galaxy holo cards into a binder, they aren't exactly too old or too special (gen 4 to gen 6 mostly) but they look nice. Shame most of my cards got stolen at some shitty unsanctioned pokemon TCG club (that was actually an officially sanctioned Yu-gi-oh and MTG club) or sold on the car boot behind my back by my dad.

because mint means fresh out of the pack and then graded, because only 1/5 cards pack fresh is going to be higher than a 8-9. Mint 10s are fucking rare.

So near mint means anything below that. An 8 when pulled that has been dinged during shipping or whatever.

What do you guys do with reverses? I normally sleeve my holos and better but leave my commons in a tin or box, unless rare or valuable or whatever. Do you sleeve them or leave them? Or do you just use discretion?

The last 4 vmax meowth, eevee, 1 of the eternamax, and 2nd pikachu are expensive promos. It would be 260$ for the final six when all of pic related was ~60$. Also rainbow rares are kinda lame as they don't show the colors and detail so I don't care as much for them.

I collect Japanese cards almost exclusively but Ill likely get the English vmax since they promos are much cheaper. I believe the most expensive card would be charizard vmax which I haven't looked at prices but it is probably 250$ itself or something crazy.

Fun fact is that the rainbow rare vmax charizard in Japan was a tournament promo with only 1200 copies and sells regularly for 6000-7000$.

How common were fake boxes like 10-11 years ago?
I remember I got a sealed unlimited fossil box for like $90ish back then just cause I wanted some pack-opening nostalgia. Granted it was mid-recession when people were dumping collectable stuff so not that ridiculous I think. The cards looked perfectly real in terms of colors/textures/holo patterns and compared to the same cards that I knew were real from '99, it was just the yellow border from cards in that box seemed ever so slightly bigger than many of my other cards (on the bottom mostly iirc) so I've always thought it might've been a fake box or something. Like I'm not sure if you saw a single from it you'd notice anything, but still something about the border size felt off.
