It's still one of the best Fairy type Pokémon to use while taking over gyms and raiding. It's great to use against any Dragon type raid bosses. I have a team of six level 35-40 Gardevoirs. So yeah, it's still good, and will remain viable for some time.

Is it possible to spoof with out rooting or doing anything else if all I want to do is just spoof like 10 minutes from my house? I expect niantic would only detect people that are spoofing across the US or to pokemon go events for example.

Reviewing the list of Fairy types that can Mega evolve, Gardevoir is the only viable one for raids. Doing that makes it more important than Togekiss or Granbull for boosting attacks.

Solar beam looks like a winmore when it's base attack already wrecks it advantages, and I use weatherball against neutrals, since it's so fucking fast. I put dazzling just as an incase against dragons, since I have nothing that plainly deals with that in my setup

In my experience solarbeam has nuked Dragonairs, Uxies, and Magmortars at near full health. Once you bait shields with weatherball they usually don't block the beam. It's a seriously powerful ace in the hole.

I'd never run Cherrim against Altaria though

I know people who are at level 40 and complain about not having full raid teams. We lost a Lugia raid a while back, and I wondered out loud why didn't we manage to get that shit down, since we had four players. The one random level 40 we had with us said that he doesn't have good counters for it. FFS how does a level 40 player NOT have at least 6 viable Electric, Rock, Dark, Ghost and Ice type Pokémon at level 30 or above? HOW? The mfer was using, among other things, Raichu, Aggron and Lapras.

In PVP: Who the fuck cares, it's Pokémon GO. Maybe? The moves are OP as shit there, so I guess they'd see some usage. So if you don't care about PVP, try to evolve ones with good IVs for PVP.

Like I have good Pokes but I did miss a lot of CD moves so my Rhyps don't have RW but at least I can put in two very high level ones with Stone Edge along with a Rampardos. All it takes is playing the game and catch mons, the key mechanic.

Rhyperior is decent enough as a Ground type, too. Mud Slap/Earthquake + durability ensures good TDO. Unless you're doing a really tight duo, Ground-Rhyperior is a really solid option. It's really close to Groudon in DPS.

And while it's technically best to have full team of six of whatever is the best Pokémon of a certain type when it comes to DPS, it's just not a viable strat economically speaking for most to get enough candy to, say, power up six Kyogre, so in that sense it's just smarter to make a team of several different Pokémon that are roughly as good. If a raid boss is going down with three players with six Kyogres each, then it's going down with three players with teams of Kyogre, CD-Swampert, CD-Empoleon, CD-Feraligatr etc, too. As long as they're good enough, they don't have to be the absolute best in most cases.

Also, different Pokémon have different typings. Depending on what moves the raid boss happens to have, a Pokémon with lower DPS might still be the better option simply because it resists a charge move that the higher DPS option is weak to.

In the end it's about having Pokemon prepared for situations. I take typing in consideration first before moves, and I do have a Ground move Rhyperior for use against Electric Pokemon. Also it's not even about investing solely into a few, but having backups for when that team gets wiped.

Yeah by the time you get the invite, click on the raid window, accept the raid invite and get into the lobby you might have 30 seconds left...

and trying to find everyone online for a raid to invite is very glitchy as well.

need to fix the online status so that when someone is online they're instantly listed as online and in the friends list, if you sort by online they automatically move to the top of the list.

i'd say that the timer should only start once everyone is in the lobby but i know that means the raid would never start if someone doesn't get an invite or refuses an invite.

I enter the raid, scroll my entire list, exit back to the lobby, and then re-enter. Then all of your online friends should be available right on top. You also can send them out instantly that way.

i find myself having to refresh the friends list (by resorting the online status from up to down) and even then it doesn't always show them.

But it's also just absurd that you have to enter a lobby with the timer already going in order to invite people, or that the lobby is limited to 20 players and everyone local can invite potentially dozens.

What is city life like? Are the raids jam packed, Pokestops as common as the Starbucks? I imagine you'd never be low on supplies.

My city isn't too large, but depending if you're in city centre you usually can't struggle to find a raid group, and poké stops are indeed plentiful.
In my residential area, gyms and poké stops are also convenient and the local group is often eager to get raids co-ordinated, even more-so with remote raids available.

I recently had the luxury of both gyms in my local park turn into EX raid gyms, just down the road. This was introduced after EX raids were switched off though.

Not the anon you're responding to but I'm in a big city. My condo sits on a gym and a pokestop (since the spin distance was increased, I'm unfortunately right fucking in the middle of them and can't reach without the bonus range).
Raids tend to hit 20 people if they're for anything good, immediately after hatching. After hatch you need to sit in the lobby for up to 10 minutes for people to notice and join and you can get anywhere from 3 joiners to 10 depending.

If it's an event mon or wednesday night I'm likely to see 7-12 locals in a raid when I approach it....other than that 2-3 isnt a common sight and usually makes bringing it down with 5 more friends easy.

Ironically every Starbucks here IS a stop but that aside it depends. If you go to any major park (Brackenridge is a good example) there are overlapping stops and gyms fucking everywhere. It's an amazing place to do community days on...impossible to run out of items.

Downtown is also pretty nice but the major parks are where it's at if you want to find other players.

Sorry...typo. Mega raids and Darkrai are the two exceptions to that rule but even then on C-day fucking everything gets raided. I was able to do several mega raids on Magmar day entirely with randos who were in the area.

I'm getting triggered by how stupid the gym mechanics are. The incentives are so backwards. Why do I have to wait until someone kicks me out until I can get a reward? Why do I not get rewards for each day I'm in there? Pokemon were frail as fuck in gyms and vaporeon was readily available to the masses so everyone mowed down whatever was in a gym with 6 of them. That and there was no grace period to put your pokemon in there so anyone nearby could insert a member of their team in the time it took you to finish the battle screen.

I live in a big city so it's easy to find a gym with high turnover I can farm coins in but even here I've had stuff rot for over a week without someone coming by.

We know that level 50 has been in the works for probably close to a year- and the incentives to toss excess legendaries have been only ramping up in that time. I got it after maybe the 10th throw, and I was missed the circle on every other throw due to it being a tricky shot.

Upside though is that the current friendship event substantially boosts damage with even a good friend, so this is a bit easier than it normally would be.
Moreso if someone brings a mega evolution.

I'm not exactly against dropping money on this game if it means having fun (so long as they never add a fucking gacha or anything) but at least make it consumer friendly.

Things are not going to get more consumer friendly from here, but it will eventually come to a point where there's a sudden huge drop-off in profits when the player base shrinks even, and the bullshit is too much.

I guess the stupid transporter thing costing money is proof they don't give a fuck though...among other things. To be honest the only reason I'm touching this game is because I'm disgusted by how the mainline ones look right now and needed something to scratch that itch, it's hard to cold-turkey something you've loved for 20 years and all.

I might be willfully ignoring all the problems this one has because of how good the "scratching" as it were feels....you've got me thinking too hard about it now.

Anti-consumer tactics are a paradox.
They simultaneously shrink the player base but increase profits.
That's clearly a bad business move for a globally huge franchise that has the sheer marketing power that it does, but here we are.
Niantic's success is in spite of their ineptitude and mishandling of the game and its programming, they provided a game experience that is accessible and like nothing else in the world.

Something will have to give and they'll rework mega raids to not be so shit, but when (and if) they start putting more alluring Pokémon in mega raids like Lucario and Mewtwo, watch shit explode.

Pokémon Go is also in a precarious spot.
Across generations 6, 7, and 8, there are only 248 more Pokémon to introduce.

By the way, the Kyurem raids won't be totally useless. They'll at least be candies towards Kyurem-Black and Kyurem-White.

It's pretty horrible how Pokémon is being managed by TPCi and Niantic right now, but yeah.
The series is a cultural phenomenon when you have creatures that are as beloved as real-world animals. There are people that will enjoy the games for that alone.

Niantic are looking to monetise as many aspects of the game as possible to increase their revenue sources, but they're going about it in such a way that it reduces player retention.
Even little things like stickers are insidious, or they can be more blunt like charging $5 for a character pose or locking them behind ticketed events that cannot be purchased via currency earned in-game.

Right now, I'm highly suspect of the increased trading distance.
They haven't said anything like, considering making it a permanent improvement to facilitate player engagement. They've mentioned it is likely to be a part of events rather than fostering a gameplay loop of "catch, trade, get lucky, transfer".
I am concerned that their method of monetising trading will come in the form of increasing stardust costs corresponding to distance. Therefore requiring players who want to trade a lot, to play a lot more to afford those trades.
This would end up being a hugely counter-productive move that serves to make a feature dead on arrival, like mega evolution / raids.

There'll be content, like mega abomasnow, spotlight hours, general raids and gameplay.
Events aren't the only content in the game after all, and they keep what they're doing somewhat close to their chest these days.
December right now looks empty but they'll probably have something.

But otherwise, it's probably that they're putting the game on auto-pilot or low-maintenance mode.
In tech companies its normal for a large portion of the staff to take long periods of leave for the holiday season.
I work in tech myself and my last working day of the year will be December 11th. I won't even return to work until January 4th.

Mega raids are dead content. No one wants to waste raid passes for subpar material rewards and rental pokemon.
We already know the spotlight hours and only one of them is remotely useful.
Kyurem is useless, has no shiny chance and anyone who raids regularly has enough rare candy knocking around that they don't need the pitiful gain from capturing Kyurems anyway.
Regular gameplay needs additional extras to keep you bothering all day, shitmons including the gen 6 pokemon don't do that
We've known for a long time the game is minimum effort but apart from the fact that the Pokemon fanbase is mentally ill and will worship Niantic regardless I don't see what they expect to grip people for this month.

I love them as a concept but the risk vs reward is just so skewed with them. They're much harder in general than 5 stars and they dont really reward something worth the effort. Maybe if they jacked up the shiny chance and made them roll off a 12/12/12 baseline or something....idk.

Like I did a mega Houndoom the other day (it was community day and everyone was indiscriminately raiding everything) and that bastard was much tougher to kill than any of the pixies are...and my reward is a 10/15/11 Houndoom and not nearly enough energy to evolve it. What was the point?

As far as the trading thing goes though....if they dont just fucking let us have it I fully expect it to cost 100 coins a trade or something asinine to close the distance....perhaps a 30 minute "trade pass"

You know how there's a shitload of waypoints in Ingress that don't turn into Gyms or Stops in Pokémon Go?

They need to actually make use of those with a third type of point of interest.
It could be something like Pokémon dens where you encounter rare-ish Pokémon, gather watts that can be used for things like "Go-Powers" (temporary bonuses) or triggering on-map mini events.
It can be monetised too, as per Niantic's agenda, make it that you need batteries to charge in order to use "Go-Powers", and you have to buy batteries that have limited uses (like incubators).

Like seriously it's a huge missed opportunity for them, do SOMETHING with those points of interest already.

Well the point anyway is that introducing new Mega Raids is a form of delivering new content, regardless of whether or not you care for it.

I'm in the same boat as you guys, they're pointless. You get a Pokémon you don't need as you likely already have something far better, with exclusive moves or as shiny, and you only get to rent the mega evolution.

Ownership of something means you're less likely to keep working on it, but then there's shit like taking Mega Venusaur out of circulation already.
Two simple fixes to drastically increase interest in mega raids:
>Exclusive moves and/or shiny chances
>Mega evolution is an unlock with cost-free activation, but limitations like cooldowns

Do what I do: if you have too much, bank it in a legendary you'll invest later. I put about 100 into mewtwo, groudon, dialga, kyogre, etc. because those are future-proof legendaries (even if I'm still looking / lucky trading for a 4*)

Hell, the most useful legendaries they've had this year were Darkrai (best dark) and Sky Attack Moltres (best flying)
