Mega Mawile is one of my all time favourite Pokemon. Wish it could be retconned as a normal evolution since it seems like it will never return.

Game Freak won't bring back megas unless TPC forces them too. They said making new forms was too difficult (then they did gigantamax anyway) and that they didn't want fans to expect like 10 new megas each game.

I don't think we'll be getting them back any time soon, even if they're being pushed now. But Game Freak goes back on their word all the time. Like when Masuda said that hats were REQUIRED for a protagonist to explain why we can't remove them in XY, only for them to let them be optional in SM and beyond.

Competitivefags love megas though because they actually introduced strategy to the Pokemon who got them unlike Z-Moves or Dynamax.
The timing of a mega evolution actually matters and still isn't just an insta win button.

Why go that far? Megas were flexible from the beginning as it was just the impact of the ultimate weapon, which affected the entire world and not just Kalos.
I guess that's why they can't seem to let megashit go, it was just too well suited to being shoved everywhere when Z-Moves and Dynamax were given the blanket answer that they only have affect in Alola and Galar to justify them not being anywhere else.

What introduced strategy? It's no different than form changes previous generations had.

What? Z-Moves and Dynamax both require more strategy because they only work once and then wear off. Dynamax especially because it requires not only choosing the timing but choosing the Pokemon to even use it on mid-battle.

I'm pretty indifferent towards megas, I don't care for using them but the designs can be pretty neat. I would have liked if Milotic got one to go along with Gyrados.
Other than that, I feel like mega Claydol would have looked insane and I probably would have liked it.
