The more complicated part is the Base Damage, which was fixed in Gen 6. The typing part is pretty much fine.

Yep basically. It was too fucking annoying to get the perfect pokemon if it was needed. The much better solution is to use the "mystical fire" treatment where you selectively give pokemon "relatively" weaker coverage moves with wide distributions, so fairies can still have an HP fire, but not every pokemon can throw out any type.

It was removed because they removed signatures of mons not in the game. For Hidden Power: Unown. Its that simple. Another example is Tail Glow.

they removed Hidden Power because max moves change type with moves that change type, and letting every pokemon have access to a max move of every type except Fairy would've created more balancing issues than just removing HP does
