Yeah, it's a stupid idea for a pokemon. But the execution of the design and the Pokedex entries made it so fun and likable that I couldn't help but love it. Plus he's super cute!

Turtwig, because I started with gen 4 and chose him as my starter. It’s pure nostalgia bias, but I don’t care. Just wish that Torterra was better, honestly, though he’s still my favourite fully evolved starter. Overgrow is kinda wasted when your only worthwhile move is Wood Hammer which will get you killed if you use it in overgrow range.

Always loved Aggron since my childhood, every run of Sapphire I've ever played I'd always pick up an Aron to evolve. Crazy good tank, I only wish that the lad was easier to evolve into Lairon so I don't have to spend half the game with a little beastie while the rest of my team is well on their way to being fully evolved.

Always picked Grass starter. Loved the arm blades. Loved the name Leaf Blade as an attack name and Gen 3s animation of it. Looks cool. Love the shiny version. Enjoyed Anime version with being a legendary slayer when a lot of Ash's mons are a lot weaker (not all). My first level 100. Reptiles are cool. Fitting the tropical region.

Now say what you don't like about your favorite. For me Sceptile is a special attacker with a physical move pool. HA and Mega ability arent super helpful in competitive. Dragon is cool but probably hurts more than helps. Not a lot of merch would love a shiny full art tcg. Starter so I have to breed a new one each gen. Will never be in the wild of a main game for a regular playthrough.

Before I had a favorite pokemon, I initially liked Mightyena for personal reasons relating to my dog, and just their design. On a surface level they're your standard edge-mon, (which is fine) but they can be really cute, too. Later on I learned about the different species of hyena, neither Poochyena nor Mightyena resemble a spotted hyena, so learning about striped hyenas, brown hyenas and aardwolves to a lesser extent was fun and memorable. Hyenas are my favorite animal.

In RSE needing the desert goggles to even traverse the area filled me with a sense of wonder, like I wasn't supposed to be there and whatever lived in the desert was tough. This pokemon really drilled in the "Desert is a dangerous environment" theme with how adapted it is.

Dunsparce. Hidden somewhere in the caves, it's always a surprise to find one, even if you don't find it the first time there's the swarms event which can lead you to one. I also like the color palette and its simplicity. I used one as my starter in X since I didn't like the Kalos starters.
