Nah it’s fucked. Gamefreak refuse to adapt and keep on trying to make games exactly the same way they did in the 90s and for as cheap as possible while wondering why their games are getting worse and worse, while the two guys in charge of game development (Masuda and Ohmori) despise working on the series and would rather be doing literally anything else with their time. Gamefreak needs big changes and I think we all know how they feel about change.

Kids were expected to read the manual in those days. In fact, the manuals were quickplay guides and usually gave hints and tips for the first little while of the game in those days. the explain how not catch pokémon in them, no need to put an in-game guide. Think that even happened in Gen II too.

Remember the game launched mid-90's and developed in an era where manuals and little in-game direction were the norm. Nowadays, you don't get a manual and have to waste an hour and a half learning ho to wipe your arse.
