No, if we want to get technical it was probably a little bit after. Before it could just be handwaved as incompetence or lack of technologically advanced hardware but they clearly don't give a shit anymore. Most likely with ORAS or after. X and Y was just following the typical pattern of 1 step forward 2 steps back that this franchise always does.

The franchise lost its soul when GF realized that profits trump quality. When they realized that they can cater strictly to children and the sales trends strongly suggest you're going to buy it anyway, there is no incentive to try all that hard.

Cyndaquill having it's flames active at all times is retarded, people who see this as a positive change are brainlets.

Cyndaquill looks cute still without them and is low to the ground and has a massive amount of flames, it would burn everything around it by having them on at all times. typhlosion having them active at all times makes a bit more sense since there's less flames and given it's personality, but even then it'd make more sense for them to only be on when threatened.

The issue with typhlosion's 3d model isn't that the flames aren't perpetually on, it's that it's proportions are fucked up, it's face isn't as threatening as it used to be, and it's animated in a dynamic fashion. Pic related shows it with no flames, but he still looks relatiively cool because of the posing, his face not being made goofy like in the 3d model and still looking ,monsterous, etc.

Because they aren't, they're objectively better then gens 1-3 just on the basis of having abilities, the physical special split, etc, and then on top of that you have a extremely varied mon selection, one of the better plots in the series up till that point, only being suprassed by gen 5, trainer customization, amie, etc.

People only say XY is shit because it doesn't have a battle frontier or other meaningful postgame content (but niether does RBY, GSC, RS, and DP) and because it came right after BW2 speffically, the best games in the series, and because the games AFTER XY stagnated, even though XY itself was one of the best first entries of a new genereation in the series.

It is funny how no one fucking acknowledges that GF was so shit at 2D that they had to use 4 direction movement for 15 fucking years.

There have been RPGs with diagonal movement since the at least the NES and games with OW encounters since at least the SNES. Yet everyone magically throws away their standards for the 2D games because games veepee grew up with can do no wrong.

Literally no one wants the flame on all the time. Half the reason Cyndaquilfans love the family is the ability for them to switch between raging fire mode and cuddly eclair mode. The problem Cyndaquil fans have with the 3D models has always been with the idle pose IN BATTLE. Cyndaquil and senpai should have flames on during the whole battle because those are their main form of defense. There was literally an entire subplot in the anime of Ash teaching Cyndaquil to have ITS FLAME ON FOR THE ENTIRE BATTLE BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT ITS FOR. It also makes sense for Cyndaquil to have its flames on in the intro because it want to look more impressive because it wants to be picked. The only time when Cyndaquil absolutely shouldn't have its flames should be in Amie/Camp or when its resting and even then it should still be able to turn them on if it gets excited or its testing out an attack. However, if for some reason a game maker absolutely had to pick only one pose Common Sense says to err on the side of including the flames since they're such a defining trait of the family.

I know last time the file name implied that Yani was the yawnfag be corrected but I changed it so he's the one correcting the yawnfag

No. I think XY is simply the point where a-lot of fans grew up and lost their rose tinted glasses for the series. That isn't to say that it doesn't have issues. But if any of the current discourse was really all about quality, then Pokemon's "decline" can be traced a-lot further back. Like DP at release running slower than the GBA games. Battle Zone being less ambitious than Emerald's Battle Frontier, and the Sevii Isles adventure from FRLG. Online infrastructure and gameplay options were absolutely barebones, despite the Nintendo DS being capable of much more. etc.

the quality took a definite dive from gen 5 to 6. the 3d models are incredibly washed out and them making the models higher detail than the 3ds could render meant they all ran and animated like shit too

the audio was a downgrade in my opinion too. the old cries although low fidelity were much crisper and clearer.

If the pokepark and colosseum/battle revolution games are anything to go by, it wasn’t the shift to 3D itself that killed the franchise. Rather it seems like, for one reason or another, GF simply stopped caring after the mainline games made the jump. Pokemon has potential as a 3D series, but that potential is being wasted by a company who doesn’t know how to use it and doesn’t care enough to figure it out.

The fucking exp share shit makes these games baby mode. Not that they were ever hard. But that's kind of my point. Why do they need to make them even easier? It should be a post E4 item only in its current iteration. Also I hate how the rivals are all happy and smiling all the time. I hate that all the progression blockers are just idiots saying "NO DON'T GO THAT WAY". The graphics are the least of this series problems. Bring back HMs as progression blockers, make me hate my rival again, and fucking lock the exp share until you beat the E4. There you go I saved the series

As much as I love gen 4, there were signs of it.

For me I remember seeing a poignant shift in the direction of the entire franchise in gen 3. All of a sudden, Ash was in a Groundhog Day-style existence where he just repeated the same stuff in a "new" region, with all the mystery and buildup removed.
The Pokemon characters themselves went from quirky, quasi-social commentary pocket MONSTERS to "oh hey we haven't done a whale yet" or "there isn't a maoi head Pokemon yet".
It put off a lot of people back then and even though it was to get a lot worse I feel that was the initial schism. Isn't that around the time Tajiri stopped being at the helm?

This is called cherry-picking. You have selected some of the most vibrant, uncluttered images for the 2D games that aren't Pokemon, and images that are in-motion for the 2D Pokemon games. If you had an ounce of integrity, you'd use examples from the back of the box as a standard example. You can find parts that look shit in literally anything.

Then you reversed the cherrypicking for the 3D section by using a second- or third-hand image of Smash 3D featuring a low-res summon that appears for 2 seconds versus a main battle from a Pokemon game at the climax of the story, one of the only places with an actual background.
That Zelda one is just a terrible quality image and further disarms any point you might be trying to make with it.

This is why I didn't like that introduction for the direct. It had the exact opposite effect on me than what they were expecting. It made me realize how much of a cashcow Pokémon has turned, and the reason why they'll never care about the quality of games again.
