All Pokémon games should have all Pokémon playable, otherwise the game is shit, and excluding any Pokémon from playability is fucking unacceptable.

I want the dex cuts to continue because the games deserve design vs bloat. I don't think tracking collections forever is worth game design. I cannot think of a practical, logical benefit to thing to force every single pokemon into one game. There are some emotional reasons, but no studio should act on the whims of an overly emotional fan.

Devil's advocate; One of the biggest hooks for about two decades for almost all mainline and mainline adjacent Pokemon games like Colliseum and Gale of Darkness is being able to transfer mons from and back and so on. That expectation was one created by GF and it's not one they've abandoned totally for a clean slate with SwSh and LGPE.

I think actually focusing on making the gameplay engaging again visually and mechanically would be good though so I don't mind if they work with limited rosters for now. But this is more on GF and being the largest profitable franchise off of stuff like this more than any autist on /vp/ who needs their Houndoom to have all the ribbons.

What reality? They're still reusing the 3DS assets. There is no reason to cut them now. If they had actually remade all of them and gave them new sets of animations that completely blew them out of the water, that would have been understandable. But they didn't. Pokemon were cut for literally no reason, cutting them in SWSH was completely arbitrary.

Anon, the models are the same. All the workload required for 3DS models to work with Swoosh required redrawing albedo textures (30-60 minutes tops per textures), rebaking normal map (~1 minute), copy-paste shaders from similar pokemon models already implemented into the game and maaaybe make one animation for Dynamax (or just reuse the roar one).

I see it as an exciting opportunity to make a new team of pokemon I still very much enjoy. Some added constraints make my choices feel more important. I find it a little overwhelming and less interesting to make the same choice from a pool of EVERYTHING because there will be more regrets and indecision that way

I find a wide-open dex the best possible channel for exploring Pokemon I've long forgotten about or neglected. Game Freak curating the selection for me doesn't really help. Like I said, I'm fine if they do that for the regional dex (which we've already come to expect anyway). The constraints just make me feel like, "Well, out of the ones available, I guess these are my favorite options." But that doesn't impart true satisfaction.

Either the usual jewish penny pinching to save costs, or they wanted to make sure people actually paid for Home subscription, or they figured they want to do more substantial upgrades to pokemon models in the future games (Oshawott got its mouth modeled in Legends, which would also require existing animations to be updated with actual mouth movements instead of texture swap + new animations for the modernised battle presentation) when they were about half way done updating the textures.

Right, but you get that during the main story. You can pick your favorites among those available, and then once you reach the postgame, you can build your true competitive dream team. Given a game that doesn't have all Pokemon natively available, but at least includes them in its data, you have the best of both worlds, don't you?

I get your point a little bit, in that it brings everyone to a common baseline. There are arguments about whether games like Dark Souls should have difficulty modes, with the director having gone on record as saying that he wanted everyone coming at and conversing about them from a common perspective. Still, I don't think less is really more in this case. It's just less, and maybe that makes things simpler. But that sounds like Stockholm Syndrome to me.

Regional Dexes exist specifically to avoid the problem of bloat (assuming that Pokemon can even considered bloat even the series is about them). No one expects every Pokemon to make an to catchable in-game or even make an appearance, that would dilute encounter pools and complete fuck with the design of the games. All BBND wanted was for every Pokemon to be transferrable up into the most recent generation.

What's funny is that Gen V did this perfectly: 150ish regional dex then letting players bring in their old favorites one they beat the game, letting the Gen V Pokémon shine without punishing fans for giving a damn about the previous Pokemon. However too this day there are still retards screeing that they couldn't use Charizard from KANTOOOOOOOOO right away. So now we have this bullshit were Lame Freak treats Charizard like a god while 26% of Pokemon are currently considered unworthy of existing in the main series at all.

Dexit was a completely pointless and stupid. Having old Pokemon be transferable without them making an appearance would incentivize players to play the older games and explore the previous regions. .

I didn't say they should all be freely available. I'm advocating for their inclusion in the game data, so they can be transferred. If you can't enjoy the selection offered by the main game because you know somewhere out there players are transferring in their own favorites, that's your problem, not the game's.

This is Stockholm Syndrome. There is no logical reason to completely omit Pokemon from the game. There's a logical explanation for it, which is that development time and effort are finite resources. It's not a positive design choice.

But one of us is deprived of the ability to exercise those values for frankly arbitrary and dubious reasons. We're not just arguing over the hypothetical here; there are hundreds of Pokemon players simply cannot use by any means in Sword or Shield, as will very likely be the case with all future games. Gen IV was where I cut my teeth in competitive, actually. I was a little miffed that I couldn't use Garchomp in OU, but I just played metas that allowed it. See the earlier point in my post: You can have multiple metas in the same game. It's perfectly feasible. In fact, it already exists by virtue of ranked and unranked battle spot being in the game.

I think the only realistic way that would happen is if there was a game that was exclusively a battle sim like we used to have, which totally should have every pokemon, multiple metas with banlist, etc. such a have would truly be a win for everyone.

I have over 400 hours on SWSH and only 60 on XY and I still think that XY are the better games there. SWSH is more playable because of online multiplayer features and a more popular console which means more people to play with.

1. They were talking about pokedex entries, which SM didn't have for anything outside of the Alola dex
2. It was blatant bullshit given they've just been copypasting dex entries for old shit for years anyways.
3. XY and SM both had significantly more content than SWSH, and the former had the monumental task of modeling ALL of them from scratch during its development.

It's fine if you prefer pre-bank metas, but there's many of us who like playing national dex. There's a very large audience for it and none of the excuses given for cutting Pokemon, especially meta reasons, hold up under scrutiny.

Fleshed out routes, an actual battle facility with unique NPCs, bigger towns, legendary Pokemon to actually hunt? It's a really barebones game. Rushed in a lot of places, Spikemuth is a good example. It's a literal hallway.

SWSH has significantly less content than its predecessors, it relies on the wild area and max raids to pad out gameplay and your enjoyment of the game generally depends on how much you enjoy the wild area and raids. Personally I find them repetitive.

A game with more fleshed out routes, towns, and dungeons. A game with vastly superior online functionality and a postgame battle facility with unique NPCs and a genuine challenge, even if the bulk pokemon sets within that facility were straight up reused from BW's Battle Subway. There are even some legendary Pokemon to hunt in the postgame, even if it's all KANTOOOOOOOOOOOO pandering and what-not.

Make no mistake, XY was pretty barebones itself, but it still managed to be more fleshed out than SWSH and that's with the burden of creating the 600+ Pokemon models from scratch that we're still using today 8 years later.

which fucking routes? some routes are neat I'll give you that but some like the hippowdon, skiddo, and mamoswine routes are the most pointless routes to ever exist in a fucking pokemon game....well aside from route 1 in XY also one not route but area that I always think of in XY (not in a good way) is the shitty cave you enter that's before the 2nd gym...legit the most fucking aggravating and at times disorienting cave in existence whoever designed that should've been euthanized...tho Terminus Cave is a bit dope

Lots of people noticed, it was talked about when XY was relevant. Don't think people were bothered much by it because the new species and new sets were thrown in, too. Battle Maison had a lot of variety and people only complained about it when it was lazily reused in ORAS.
