I had stopped playing Moon version about a month after I finished it back in 2017 and never touched it again since. I just started getting bored of it, the fanbase was becoming obnoxious and borderline pedophilic with the human characters that were introduced in S/M (they still are and it’s the most autistic/retarded shit I’ve ever seen) and most importantly, ultra sun and ultra moon were announced and they were looking like ass with every month that passed without news and there was zero hype/hope generated from me for these games. Other than these reasons I stated, I honestly couldn’t remember why I just dropped Moon so quickly as actually really liked it when it came out, like, ALOT. I just played through it again and I gotta say, this is the most suffocatingly bad experience I’ve ever had with a Pokémon game. I now remember why I dropped it. The story, characters, new Pokémon, new ideas, ultra beasts, and new mechanics were amazing, but it was SO UNBELIEVABLY HARD to enjoy ANY OF IT because this game literally holds your hand and spoon feeds you EVERYTHING. If that wasn’t bad enough, it FORCES THE SPOON DOWN YOUR THROAT EVEN IF YOU DONT WANT IT. The game stops you in your tracks every two fucking seconds because Lillie or Hau has something retarded to say or because you are told plot stuff or given tutorials on either useless mechanics that you’ll never use or shit you already know. It happens from beginning to end and completely DESTROYS the flow of the game. I know people called X/Y and OR/AS hand-holdy, but holy fucking shit this is BAD. The devs literally force you to play the game the way they intended with very little freedom, time to breathe, or outside the box thinking or gameplay to be able to be done on your part. It is also filled to the brim with superficial roadblocks that stop you from going outside of a set path. You know what roadblock I’m fucking talking about. STOUTLAND.

Again I will say the story is fantastic, but the storytelling itself is done so sloppily too and the game literally designed it to make it so you finish the game as fast as humanly possible rather than taking your time and having fun in this world and properly enjoying the story at a better pace. I can’t even see this game is perfect for speed runners, because the biggest challenge of this game is pressing the button over and over again until the text boxes go the fuck away. It was not a fun revisit and it left a really shitty taste in my mouth. SW/SH at least met my expectations because I thought it was going to be shit and it met those expectations, but with how promising S/M looked pre-launch, the fact that it ended up being as bad as it did hurts a lot. Man, I just want to have freedom and fun with a Pokémon game again without being smothered by this shit. Is that so much to ask? I’m fucking starving. Legends looks promising though so that kinda gives me hope for the future I guess. I really hope they don’t fuck it up but that’s asking too much from Gamefreak I feel.

>>46428316 Blame Black and White. They were the first Pokemon games to place emphasis on story instead of gameplay. N, Cheren, and Bianca would all frequently interrupt you. There was also the forced tutorial for Pokestar Studios in B2/W2.

>>46428415 That may be so, but the pacing was so much worse in S/M though and at least B/W were somewhat fun, challenging, and aesthetically. From my experience I never saw the interruptions as overbearing or anywhere near as annoying or frustrating as S/M’s and were very minor inconveniences that didn’t destroy the entire flow of the game or carry out for too long or too often.

>but it was SO UNBELIEVABLY HARD to enjoy ANY OF IT because this game literally holds your hand and spoon feeds you EVERYTHING Welcome to the world of pokemon were every game is linear. Yes SM holds your hand like every pokemon game, but it just does it better than every pokemon game. The handholding is what introduces everything that you mentioned you liked. You are literally saying that you liked everything that was presented to you but you didn't like that it was presented to you. Don't reply to me I'm leaving this retarded thread. I actually get people who don't like the characters, pokemon, and story in SM but you are just fucking dumb.

Both USUM and SwSh are pretty much unreplayable due to the constant, unskippable interruptions and railroading. Both games are a symptom of GF realising that the single player mode is not what gives them their longevity, its the multiplayer, and the idea of "replaying" a game runs counter to the main post-game goal of building competitive teams via breeding and trading, and battling with others online. At this point the single player campaign is just a means to an end, something they include begrudgingly because its expected of the franchise, but not something designed to be experienced more than once or thought about to any great degree. Its made straightforward and unchallenging to funnel players through to the post-game as quickly as possible. The main advantage SwSh has is that there is actually a lot of post-game content and the online is generally good (although Stamps are retarded). USUM had a terrible postgame in comparison, which made the lacklustre campaign even more of a problem. Its a very low bar though; SwSh still unequivocally sucks ass.

If it weren't for the fans a lot of people would've went into swsh with higher expectations. You can blame them for making S/M look hype but if they hid it better Swsh would've been pretty hype too.

Sun and Moon felt like a mobile game that you "play" for like 5 minutes tops before getting interrupted and sent to play a different little level.
I don't know how else to describe it but yeah it wasn't an exploration at all, might as well have NO map and outright teleport you from battle to battle.
