I always get scared that if May ever appeared again the writers would ruin her somehow. Since she hasn't appeared in over a decade I feel if she ever does appear again it has to be *perfect* and not just a random cameo like Dawn's BW cameo turned out. That's why if she has no reason to appear I'd prefer her not to, because I'd be scared and worried if they gave her a bad reappearance or the episode itself is lackluster.

DP and XY are bland as shit and proof that shonenfags and self-inserters have the worst taste in anime possible.

the only times the anime was ever really good was the shudo seasons of the OS, SM and PM. this show is a comedy first and foremost, and every time it has forgotten that in favor of giving muh serious plotlines much more prominence it's become unwatchable.

Wow, for being the best and funniest season yet, PM discussion is as dead as SM was, that is until it needs help from character from previous seasons as a novelty. It really makes you think. I guess PM still has "comfy" and "fun" to it, which is not at all a synonym for "boring and nothing happens" and "I don't have anything good to say about this anime because it has nothing of value to offer so I'll just say it's fun", respectively.

I remember thinking that ot would have been very interesting if Ash had voted for someone else during one of Serenas performances, simply because he thought the other performer were better. It could have made for a great drama episode and development for both Ash and Serena. I know Pokémon wouldn't do that regardless of what season it is since characters fighting with eachother usually is a big no-no unless they are comedic in nature, but it would have been nice.

One thing I noticed is that a lot of people on /padt/ dropped the anime after XY ended, but dropping the anime after SM wasn't much of a thing (it seems that most people who watched SM gave Journeys a shot). Any reason for this?

And we were making progress towards making /padt/ a no series in particular-centric general too. I'm going to be honest, even as an XYfag myself, the worship /padt/ and its userbase has towards XY compared to other series is just bizarre. I mean DP never got a circlejerk that lasted this long despite how highly regarded it is, so I don't get why XY is getting such a treatment instead. XY circlejerking despite it having ended made sense when SM was still new, but we're now almost one-and-a-half years into PM2019 and we still get more XY discussion than SM and PM2019 combined. It just doesn't make sense.

I was talking about in general, this has been going on ever since PM2019. For a while things were improving and /padt/ actually became PM2019-centric, but with people losing interest in the series and /padt/ going dead, it seems that the old suspects found an opportunity to change the direction of the thread to their interest. Notice the uptick in shipping-related posts as well? Definitely the same people behind all of this.

Most of the /padt/ XY fanbase at the time were older fans who had not watched the series in a while but were sucked in by "mature" themes, good animation, and even romance. When people saw that SM would instead be a SoL with an emphasis on comedy, many of these older fans went "eh, this isn't for me" and dropped the series then and there. On the other hand, much of the younger fanbase who started watching during XY moved on to watching SM and are still watching the show to this day. It seems that XY fans dropping the anime after XY was far more common than SM fans dropping the anime after SM (in fact, most of the SM fans I've seen are still watching PM2019 and are some of its biggest defenders).

If that were the case then you'd expect all sorts of seasons to be discussed here. OS, AG, DP, even BW and SM. But it always more often than not ends up being XY. Sure XY was the foundation of /padt/ (indeed, like many others here, it was the first season I followed on a weekly basis), but still.

There was a lot of shitposting during SM and the moderation wasn't great to the point where it frequently aided the shitposters instead of punishing them, so a lot of the regulars left because the thread stopped being fun due to the shitposting.

That was truer when PM was new but nowadays it's really more of a hybrid of XY and SM. It has the episodic traveling structure of SM and has a lot of comedic and SoL elements, but the battles are closer to XY in terms of plot and other stuff. Plus, PM has had more continuity and references to previous seasons than any other season.

Yeah I was going to bring up that group of people who didn't tolerate SM discussion and spammed lolis and celebrities to try and stop SM discussion in its tracks, but those people are mostly gone now so it's water under the bridge. To this day it was ridiculous that we went through all of SM with a pasta that had more XY stuff than SM and it took months into PM2019 (and much drama) before anything was finally done about it.

I think during its best episodes, AG probably has the second best humor after the Kanto saga. Problem is AG wasn't consistently funny (and there's some dull/boring eps there), but at its height, AG mixed humor with more focusing on battles/development the later seasons would be known for.

I also still say May is the funniest pokegirl after maybe Kanto-era Misty.

May was the Mimi (Digimon) of the pokemon anime, she is 2nd funniest character after Misty.

However Misty's character work well because she was the perfect fit between Ash & Brock with Ash being the native kid with pride and Brock being the mentor figure who was obsessed with finding a girlfriend, all the anime needed were a straightman with more common sense. Misty was the Gwen (Ben 10) of pokemon anime.

This is why Chloe's character isn't working out since she has no dynamic with Ash. Even Brock has better dynamic with Misty.

I dropped the series on Diamond and Pearl because it was shit and retook it on XY. Really loved XY but then dropped Sun and Moon after 2 chapters because it was a cringefest. Should I give a chance to Journeys?

I think it was the best season overall as it has the best animation hands down, it has actual character development arcs, and adds more SOL elements instead of just being a kids show. Also, it doesn't have as much filler episodes as other series. To me it's the best and if you don't think the same I honestly don't really care as each has their taste and because after 22 years of consooming this franchise I pretty much made up my mind.

I watched most movies but series I only watched the original one every chapter until Battle Frontier, there I started to be more erratic until Diamond and Pearl because it bored me.

I really liked the Original one and Johto even with their flaws. Hoenn was enjoyable too. Diamond and Pearl I dropped it too soon to talk about the series as a whole, and BW I literally skipped. But XY, to me, surpasses everything I've seen because of what I've explained. Sun and Moon I did not like mostly because of the animation and because:

A friend of mine told me that it becomes better after like 40 chapters but having to see 40 chapters of literal crap is not my piece of tea. I just don't. I'd rather skip it and go to Journeys.

New notebook and I don't have many XY Pictures here, that's why I was using those mostly.

Amourshipping as "they must end up together!!!" no, but I liked the dynamic that Serena brought to the series and the crush on Ash had a great role on it. I did not care too much about them ending up together, but the whole situation gave a higher grade of seriousness to the series. I liked how she progressed from "I don't know what to do with my life, let's go find the guy I have a crush on him" to finding what she wanted to do, confronting her mother and then leaving her crush to go achieve her goal. I do think she's the most suitable partner for a romantic interest from all the previous ones, though, but she coming back for them to be together happy ever after probably would hurt the series as it would stall it.

For the record, I also loved Clemont and Bonnie! They were great in the series. These four are my favorite traveling group.

I watched every single episode from the very first one up to Battle Frontier. There's when I became erratic. That includes watching as a whole the Kanto, Johto and Hoenn arcs though the last one could be disputed as even if the Battle Frontier arc happens on Kanto, it's part of the Ruby and Sapphire series. And XY, of course.

Ones I watched erratically or gave it a try and dismissed are: Battle Frontier, Diamond and Pearl and Sun and Moon. Haven't watched Black and White nor Journeys, though I've read here that BW is a mess.

I'll admit, I was one of those who was apprehensive about the art style change at first, but eventually I just got used to it and nowadays I don't even give it much attention anymore. And really, other than Ash and Team Rocket, everyone else looks fine. In fact, the Alola cast's designs are pretty faithful to the games.

As much as I like that Koharu showed up in the episode, she really didn't do anything. It's as if she appeared just as an excuse for her to be in the episode. It would have been better if she was the one who stopped the ball or at least helped in doing so instead of just being there.

Ash sent out Goodra from its pokeball during the league. This indicates it was still under Ash's ownership after all that time of being "released". I feel Goodra is just one of Ash's mons he keeps in a diffrent place than Oak's lab or Kukui's house, and can recall it at any time, just like his Squirtle is in the care of officer Jenny, but Ash still owns it and can recall it at any time.

Yeah, Goodra is pretty much like pre-Oaking Charizard or the Kukui'd Pokemon: in training and can still be called up at any time. Greninja is more of a special case but given that the first episode of SM implied that Ash still has his Poke Ball, it could really be argued either way.

Honestly the only thing PM has to do to win XY fans is to introduce an even more beautiful girl in the main cast with an obvious crush on Ash. If I was in charge than I probably would have treat her crush on Ash as nothing more than a joke because its stupid to add romantic subplot in a kids anime where protagonist doesn't age.

Actually shipping is just bait and different shippers has different taste therefore require different bait so I would just introduce a harem with every different archetype for every shipper so it can lure them into watching the anime.

You can use information from past events to apply to later events, but you can't use later events to retroactively apply to the past. In addition, being in another region is an entirely different thing than being in another dimension, especially how Journeys has made it clear how the other regions are only a short boat/plane trip away.

The old man not going to fly Goodra to anywhere Ash need it to. The fact that he had to drive Goodra to the league mean he has no transporter. Furthermore they is no pokemon center nearby ether since Goodra needed to be treated in that old man home after it got injured.

Ash using Goodra was just an one time deal like Naganadel. As far as facts goes Goodra has been released, not sent to train.

The only actual "movie" (not even "anime" movie but actual "cinema" movie) is the Pokemon Heroes 5th movie. The rest are just extended ashnime episodes. Not that that's a bad thing but I just want to call things their names.

Only Bakugan really came close to Pokemon in terms of actual global international appeal. This Mazica stuff is gonna have to have one hell of an anime in order to compete(Pokemon was largely successful globally due to its anime which was innovative at the time for being what it was).

Bakugan was never that popular worldwide, the only franchises that really gave a fight were Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh and YW. And even then in terms of profit and popularity they never came close to Pokemon in the long-term.

Team Plasma in BW since we never got that two parter early in the series. They didn't debut until BW109, and every other evil team in the Anime appeared before then.

True. I think there only being two protagonists instead of a true three-person main cast (Ash, Goh, and Koharu) is hurting more than helping. Goh-centric episodes have been hit-or-miss, Ash's battles have disappeared after a promising start, and Koharu is just there and not being used to her full potential. There's still time to recover, but right now PM2019's at a low point that's lower than even lower than SM's lows and probably closer to BW.

They could do the two protagonist thing but I feel as if they should have Go just do more than throw the ball like maybe learn about the Pokémon, set up a trap, and use different types of balls etc. Like they didn’t make her work to get where he’s at. Koharu should love Pokémon but have no actual experience with any or have misconceptions which gives her a reason to wanna help Ash and Go. That way she’s not as boring.

Having just two protagonist is not the problem.
The problem is the lack of interesting supporting characters and their dynamic with the main Duo. For Example : Gundam Build Fighter had two protagonist but they had a lot of interesting supporting & rival characters with interesting dynamic with the main Duo to move the story forward. Furthermore the anime making Ash "Too nice" since XY which hurt his dynamic with other characters.
