You've got ten Routes (a big chunk of which are just linear hallways that take a few seconds to traverse), no dungeons, and villains that you only really deal with once. Everything down to the roadblocks is extremely lazy -- HMs have their issues, but unlocking more of the world through new abilities is a million times better than having your path blocked by a couple of fat faggots until you beat the Gym Leader. RBY had way more content, and it isn't even particularly close. The lazy animations are just icing on the cake.
The only nice things I have to say are that the music and character designs are really good, but you don't need to actually buy the game to enjoy those.
