Watched the Koharu/Psyduck episode, this ep was pretty good. Felt like a slice of life episode done right, and it's good that Koharu and Chrysa got an episode too. Why did people find this ep boring? It was pretty cute and funny that she loved the Psyduck over the guy

People just want to watch all the more than 100 episodes that this series is going to have, almost forty hours, so that in the end they say that it was no good.

They aren't mad that Goh "stole" Grookey, they're mad that Goh got it. If the episode unfolded the exact same way but Ash got it instead they wouldn't complain. I mean just this season Ash got a Pokemon that belonged to another trainer, does this mean Ash "stole" Gengar? Did Ash "steal" Charizard, Infernape and Snivy as well?

Honestly it's odd only May, Dawn and Serena became main characters out of the 7 female protagonists now.

Kris, Leaf, Lyra, Hilda, Rosa, the SM girl, and Gloria all didn't become main characters.

Yup. Anyway I hope Serena is the last time they ever use the female PC as the heroine of a series. They are mean’t to be blank states, so it is counter intuitive to give them roles, backstories etc. in the anime.

>Sabrina isn't supposed to be a creepy witch
>in fact, most of Kanto's leaders are different from what the games portray
>Flannery and Skyla didn't have living grampas
>Mallow didn't have a dead mother
>a ninja village doesn't exist in Kalos
>same with the dragon village
>Nanu isn't supposed to be a corrupt cop
>Cynthia isn't supposed to be an ice cream addict
>the mysterious Pikachu van in Alola doesn't have a woman dressed like a Pikachu
>Roxie doesn't do tours
>Brandon's pyramid doesn't fly
>Anabel doesn't have powers

Technically it was sort of implied in the games since her mother is missing when you visit her house, but it was a reasonable stretch and at least in the games an argument could have been made that she was simply elsewhere.

Isn't that against the entire spirit of trading? Like canon-wise? I thought trading back and forth was just a player exploit and it was always intended to be an evolution pokemon that your friend gets.

It's relaxing and nice to watch. It has some really great episodes and it features a lot of the last third of the Pokédex that didn't get much focus during the Indigo league. It's only like 30 something episodes so you'll finish it in less than a week.

Misty also still has her personality in Johto. I really don't know what happened because as soon as you transition into Johto it feels like Misty's personality starts to completely drain. It doesn't happen right away, but gradually as you go through Johto. Outside of liking water pokemon it felt like she had no real personality anymore.

I rewatched Dawn's first contest win, man Kenny is such a loser. His Prinplup loses to Piplup 26 eps into the series, and they basically just spam bubblebeam/whirpool against each other for most of the battle.

Why did the writers make Kenny a recurring character? He could have just been a one-shot rival, like the coordinators May battled in Hoenn, and it would have been fine. He was already boring after his first appearance, and then they kept bringing him back. Dawn already beating him right at the start also made this rivalry pointless to watch afterward.

Why is the battle animation so shit? Watched the Gallade v Farfetch'd battle and it was honestly horrid.

Not to mention it was paced incredibly lazily, which made the whole battle a snoozefest. Think Journeys tops SM in horrible battles. At least SM had cool character animation, Journeys doesn't even have that.

The anime is getting to a point where even actually plot relevant episodes are barely watchable.

Any other Ash self inserters starting to consider making the switch to Goh self inserter like me? I've been projecting onto Ash for over 20 years now, but he just never gets anywhere or accomplishes jack shit outside of joke leagues like Orange Islands and Alola. Goh actually makes steady progress towards his goal, pulls off milestones like catching legendaries and since he's a capture focused character and Ash's labmons are still considered canon, his progress won't reset back to zero every season, unlike Ash having to raise a team from scratch every time

Goh’s progression in catching Pokémon is nonexistent. The kid is just naturally good at it without any prior experience. There’s only been three times where a Pokémon has actually broken out of his thrown Pokeball. And I really dislike how he has so many Pokémon yet almost never uses them at all especially to help capture Pokémon. The only Pokémon he uses to do that are the starters, and Flygon once.

We all know they did a 1v1 because Ash team at the time was shit and all except CRO were weak to ground so they couldn't have pulled of a believable win, plus they seemed to think using Pikachu was a good idea for some reason. And then they didn't even do something creative to let him win (no, the soak thing wasn't creative, it was just a copout). My idea for an actual strategy would be Pikachu setting up electrowebs all over the battlefield (which was full of pillars) and bouncing between the webs while building up momentum for a powered up Iron Tail, and then finishing it off with a Breakneck Blitz.

The problem with SM battles was that they all ended with Z-Move stock footage which killed the flow of battles. The only good battle episodes were the Kanto Gym battles and the final part of Ash VS Kukui because they felt dynamic and didn't rely on stock footage.

Remember Melmetals debut fight? Reusing the same stock footage six times in the fight - with the footage itself being about 7-10 seconds each time was fucking horrible.

That makes no sense. If you self inserted into Ash then you were an active kid. Self inserting into Goh means you're a computer shut-in that relies solely on books and cold logic unless someone guides you out of just relying on that. To be fair he catches a lot of Pokemon that are easy to catch even in the games. Scorbunny became his bloodhound early on with it's ears and its basic fighting skills that helped it become Cinderace. That said him using more types of balls which would have been a logical choice in regards to reaching his goal would have been a great addition. He does get his ass handed to him a lot in battles though, he's good at being a Shield but not good at being a Sword with his team. Probably explains why he loves Farfetch'd evolving into the Chivalrous Sir Fetch'd and paired with Zamazenta.

Koharu looks like she'll be taking Bede's role from the games as an apprentice to Opal. I'm sure that wasn't Opal's only ep this series. The Galarian Ponyta also shows up in the opening and on merch so it's probably getting captured next time we go there.

Eevee is easy to include on the main cast because it just represents Gen 1 and can evolve into many different forms, so it never quite feels the same. Piplup is a Gen 4 specific starter and was majorly associated with Dawn so I can't see it.

We've seen then promote Piplup in Movie 20 and the 8th episode without having it on the cast, so I expect something similar.

Eh, okay. I personally don't feel how you feel about Serena. But there's still this from last year, with one tidbit saying that past characters might return, so maybe you could skip Serena's potential comeback on PM. I wouldn't be surprised if some people skipped Misty and Brock's comebacks in SM, but it may possibly be narrowed down to kids who've never even heard of them. I might be wrong on that.

What are you talking about? SM and PM are two of this general's most hated seasons, and it's not even just because of the animation. Have you seen how many times people here have complained about the writing, the characters not doing anything in SM, Goh hogging up screentime, the lack of development for Ash and Goh's Pokemon, etc.?
