When you love something or someone you would still choose it above the meta, that's what it means to have a favourite pokemon.

I use typhlosion all the time and when I win I cheer, but I also know I lose more with typhlosion on my time. That's why she deserves to be buffed. People love her, and since gen 2 she has gotten jack shit while a lot of faggy starters have gotten tons of love and support.

Why not show a bit of love for Typhlosion too?

I still want the Johto staters to get the moves that they deserve. However, If for some reason, Game Freak decides that it isn’t in their master plan, I would survive. I would never stop loving the friends that took me on the best journey of my life and no Smogon tier list can take that away.

Flygon’s case is even funnier because of what happened in SWSH. Pre-DLC Garchomp was cut and Flygon had dragons dance, a buffed move pool and was the only ground/dragon left in the game. It was the best possible scenario for it.

AND IT STILL FUCKING SUCKED

It got tossed aside within a week because as it turns out even without Chomp around it’s just a fucking joke that can’t hit for shit. It rapidly fell through the tiers and was proven once and for to just be bad, bad, bad.

And then Garchomp came back even stronger than before, just to pour salt in the wound.

In Gen 7, Powercreep got so bad that Typhlosion dropped to PU where it was actually decent. However it got quickbanned to PUBL along with a bunch of other fire types. People had no place to use it so since BL isn't a teir so they started using it in NU. However, it's awful in NU because it only has one move. Rather than retest Typhlosion so it can go back to PU and be an actual Pokemon again, Smogon decided to write "that".

Ambipom's only gen 6 set is listed as "DON'T USE AMBIPOM", and its description says "Ambipom is very outclassed, and other options should always be considered first." And awkward tier placements affect even stronger guys like Staraptor notoriously. I don't think smogon meant to be especially mean to typhlosion in particular, unless there's something I don't know.

That's fair, I don't think Smogon has anything against Typhlosion in particular. It just got screwed over by a flaw with the concept of BL (at a certain point, I feel that BL's should just be tiers on their own).

The sad part is that Typhlosion isn't even that bad of a Pokemon (Eruption is a respectable niche and is amazing with Flash Fire in doubles). All Game Freak has to do was just give it some moves. Its movepool is so ass-backwards outside of Eruption, it almost seems intentionally truncated just to make Charizard look better (which is unnecessary because most people like Zard better anyways due to it being from Kanto).
I admit that I may have been a bit "overprotective". with some of of my posts, it's just that Game Freak knows that people like pokemon that are good in PvP (people like winners that's an objective fact of life), so what are they saying when they refuse to give Pokemon a few moves to make it better when it should logically know those moves anyways.

The Johto starters get complaints because it's pretty much the only area Johto fans weren't able to convince themselves was actually intentional and good. It WAS intentional, Gamek Freak intentionally made the Johto Starters worse than Kanto Starters to make the Kanto starters look better.
Meganium was given no moves because Game Freak worships Venusaur and was afraid Meganium would overshadow it.
Typhlosion has a barren movepool so that everyone would use Charizard more, but as well but Typhlosion was allowed to have Eruption because even though they want to shill Charizard, they don't worship it as much a Venusaur.
Feraligatr actually gets to be usable because they don't really put Blastiose on a pedestal like the other Kanto starters. (Remember that the original Pokemon games were Red and Green, no Blue).

Ironically, the fact that Johto starters any fans despite being set up to fail, kind of proves that they're superior. Game Freak when out of their way to tell everyone to use KANTOOO starters, but Johtoddlers still cling to Flower, Eclair, and Gatorade. Literally every other starter trio has some fair-weather fans that only like them because of starter because of how strong they are, that can't apply to the Johto starters because of how weak they are as a group competitively.

Did they try? The only reason why Typhlo and Gium are bad is because of their movepools. and there are several moves that already exist that would buff them and be thematically appropriate (I'll spare you the list since several anons repeatedly post them on vp every single day). but Game Freak just decided that they shouldn't get them for some reason. It's also one hell of a coincidence that the only Johto Starter that gets to be actual Pokemon is the only one that isn't competing with Zard (TPC's favorite) and Saur (GF's Favorite).
And about Johto being full of shitmons, there has to be some intention or malice to it. If Game Freak was just incompetent's, Pokemon from all Gens would be equally likely of being shitmons instead of Gen II taking the brunt of it. (There is no why Ledian or Delibird would be made as worthless as they are if they were from any generation other than II). I'm almost certain that the only reason Tyranitar gets to be respectable is because GF is too stupid to remember that its a Gen II Pokemon because it looks like a Kaiju and has angry Gen I eyes.

Typhlosion's movepool isn't the biggest issue, Typhlosion's problem that it's outclassed because tons of other special attacking fire types are just better than it due to hitting harder, being faster or having better boosting moves.

Anon, GF are hilariously incompetent at balancing. They try to learn from their mistakes but they do this shit all the time. Gen II was overtly safe with it's designs and it's part of why everything is non-threatening and shit. Meganium and Typhlosion weren't ever supposed to be bad, they just wound up being terrible over time. If they were included in SWSH I guarantee you they would have movepool buffs.

Cyndaquil is one of the poster children for Legends for fucks sake you daft cunt, you cannot genuinely think that Game Freak loathes it.

Though you gotta admit it is a little bullshit that they skipped gen 2 when handing out megas, they went straight to gen 3 and correct me if I am wrong gen3 starters have less fans than gen 2 starters according to polls (except for chikorita/meganium which is the least popular starter of all gens). Technically they disliked gen 2 enough to not give them megas when gen 2 had and still has every logical reason to receive them even above the gen 3 starters.

Unfortunately megas are never coming back so competitive wise the starters are relegated to be worst versions of other starters, that's the main complain here. Competitively speaking all starters get enough love to make them niche viable in OU or UU, but not the johto starters, they are pure NU.
Answer us this, could you win comfortably with current meganium or typhlosion in UU? No. Could you win comfortably with current venasaur or charizard in UU? Absolutely.

At the end of the day though, it doesn't matter. I love my girl for the pokemon she is, and most typhlosion fans can love the badass badger for what he is too. A cool looking volcano.

Anon you realize Counter literally doesn't use your physical attack right? You take a Physical attack, then deal twice as much damage back to whoever used it at you in the first place. It's independent of the user's offenses. That being said I could still see Meganium struggling with it since SE Physical moves could probably OHKO it anyway.

They're really not, at least last I checked Sceptile and Blaziken are some of the most beloved starters period and Swampert is very well loved. I do think they should've gotten megas, but I wouldn't mind if other Starters got them either and the Johto Boys do need them too.

Megas could come back in the future since they're still wildly used in many spinoffs and such but I wouldn't count on any new ones getting made. I'd like to hope so though.

I mean, they have other flaws but their movepools are the most notable problem and the easiest thing to fix. Their stats aren't awful since the Kanto Starters have the same values, and Typhlosion's Flash Fire fits so well lorewise getting rid of that would be nonsense.
More into their movepools, Meganium doesn't get sleep powder, or stun spore but it gets Poison Powder which is just Toxic but worse in every conceivable way. It doesn't get Calm Mind to be a bulky sweeper, nor does it get Helping hand to be the support mon that it was clearly meant to be.
Meanwhile, Typhlosion is just weird. The fact that it has Eruption (a very rare move) shows that GF at least cares about it. However, most of the moves it gets are physical moves that are useless from its 84 Atk. Also Extrasensory is bizarre; yes it can attempt to hit Toxapex but Earth Power would be better due to: Higher Base Power, Better Coverage overall, and actually fitting a Volcanic Badger. That's not even getting into its lack of utility or set up moves. Its physical moves are worthless because Howl and Work Up are garbage set-up moves, meanwhile Zard gets Swords Dance, and Belly Drum (not including Dragon Dance because there is no reason Typhlo should have it).
Also what's with its Base Stats, its like they wanted it to be "diet Charizard". Though I guess that's the best set up for a fast special attacker (except for maybe swapping Speed and SpA (less power/more speed would be an interesting trade off).

I've been thinking about a Meganium set that uses Counter, Leech Seed, Giga Drain, Toxic with Max HP and Max SpD EV's. The idea is to spam Seeds and Toxic, use counter when you suspect a physical attack, then regain your health with Giga Drain (which would be boosted by Overgrow if you've taken enough damage). For the item, either Wide Lens (for leech seed and Toxic) or Leftover could work. I have no idea how if this set would actually work out because I haven't gotten a chance to try it.

I don't understand the mentality of caring about relative popularity in the trio over how good the mon actually is. My favorite guy Swampert is definitely the least popular of the Hoenn trio but why should I care, I think he looks awesome and he's strong as fuck. Or just have it keep Flash Fire. It's an actual ability in Doubles (the format Game Freak cares about) since a team mate can activate it for you. (And the boosts stacks with Sun which can be set up by another team mate). Plus, the Cynda-line is based on hinezumi (Volcanic rats with fire-proof fur), Flash Fire fits too well lore wise.

Also, Hidden Power doesn't exist anymore because PLEASE UNDERSTAND. Oh and it's the only Pokemon that has the dishonor of having Charizard's exact best stats without anything of the things that makes people like Charizard, meaning Typhlosion the only Pokemon in the fucking history of the franchise that has no reason to exist, since no one with two brain cells to rub together is ever going to use it or even have it has their fav when Charizard exists. The kicker is that even if Typhlosion had survived Dexit and Game Freak grew a soul and gave it Earth Power, it still would be "Worse Charizard" because Game Freak went full retard and created Max Airstream, just so Charizard could mog Typhlosion yet again even though Typhlosion no long exists in the main series. But remember ALL POKEMON ARE IMPORTANT TO GAME FREAK.

Gen 3 got Megas because they remade Gen 3 in the Mega generation. If they'd remade Diamond/Pearl during Gen 7, there'd probably be Gen 4 Z-Signatures. Hell, if BDSP had Dynamax, the Gen 4 starters would all get GMax forms.

It's not enough for Venusuar to be consistently amazing in PvP, Saurfags have to be able to shit on Meganium for the the "worst starter".
It isn't enough for Charizard to get two fucking Megas and an entire region dedicated to its Giga, they have to be able to shit on Typhlosion for having less moves than Charizard has forms.

It's not enough for KANTOOO Starters to be worshipped by literally everyone. The Johto starters have to be objectively worthless so that Kantofaggots can feel better about themselves even though they all ready get everything.
