Wait, Ash beats Champion Iris? So Unova Champion Ash and Alola Champion Bea is a thing. If Ash beats Bea in the runback, he's the Champion of Unova and Alola. Granted Unova and Alola are the weakest regions in the anime, so it's logical progression for Ash. Imagine if Ash beats all of the champs before battling Leon? Kino.

Reminder that a Dragon Rush from Iris' Champion level Dragonite did zero damage to Ash's Charizard. Ash's Charizard is his strongest pokemon and is only rivaled by Leon's Charizard. Pikachu is Ash's second strongest mon. Infernape will surpass Greninja, and Charizard will get even more feats this season because Ash's Charizard vs Gary's Blastoise WILL HAPPEN. It was evident that this wasn't going to be a Galar season but an All Star season ever since the initial reveal. A handful of Anons in /padt/ kept saying that returning companions, rivals, and Ash's reserves wouldn't come back for a while.

>Ash's Pikachu vs Leon's Charizard: Opposite of their first battle as both will start off in their GMAX forms for the first half and then revert to their base forms. Ash's Pikachu wins.
I have a feeling that Ash's Charizard will lose to Leon's in a tasteful way that would imply that he's stronger outside of GMAX. Pikachu deserves the big win as PM2019 started off with Pikachu's origin story, so I have a feeling that Pikachu will get the biggest win of his life given how this series started.

So episode 65 is the beginning of the next arc it seems since the 2 known episodes are shown in the new preview.

With Infernape back and travelling with Ash for a few episodes it seems, I think we're set to get what we wanted from the beginning with Ash using his reserves in future important battles.

Back then she WAS a Mary sue. But now the mechanics of power levels has changed drastically since then with Megas, Z-Moves, and Dymaxing. Back then when she got Dragonite it WAS bullshit because she got handed an OP Pokemon out of nowhere. Nowadays, since Alola, that's a common occurrence so it isn't as jarring as it was back then.

It didn't really start till afterwards, even though the Don Battle was thr only time she stood out. Every other time she got wrecked by stronger Pokemon or completely embarrassed. Which is why part of me feels that her suddenly being Champion is a little...rushed? Misty and Brock hadn't appeared for years and neither one of them took a huge leap.

I could see Infernape and Ash going for training at the dojo after seeing what Urishifu can do. If Ash starts bringing back his aces over the next little while, giving them powerful opponents is the wise thing to do and Urishifu seems like the perfect fit for Infernape. To fighting monkeys that accel in CQC.

The 2nd half is usually when the series truly settles into what it wants to be. The biggest issue with early SM is that it was all over the place tonally and felt really inconsistent. We had a sad episode followed immediately by slapstick comedy, jumping into a heavy battle, before doing a SoL. It was all over the place. Early XY was a light version of the 2nd half of the series and XYZ. XY didn't "Start" until after the Korrina battle - which was one of the highest stakes battles in the franchise because of what a win over her would mean. PM has been pretty slow so far, and honestly I have a lot of doubts about this new arc especially if the past Eternatus arc is anything to go by, but as we near Ash reaching top 100 trainers it feels like things are going to have to change - especially if they had Iris win the Vertress Conference and possibly E4. The new trailer alone gives reason to think things have changed a bit because Kamiya's character mentioned that Ash and Goh literally would have died if he hadn't shown up.

It's pretty obvious Infernape is the first old pokemon to get focus because of the upcoming DP promotion, but it's great nonetheless. Hopefully Gible gets to come back and evolve, and seeing Torterra actually win a battle would be nice too.

It's like they skipped several steps because they decided to give Ash his pity league win, so just said whatever fuck it.

And if Ash gets to Leon, even if he loses, he'll have no business losing to anyone else not within the top 10 trainers in the world afterwards because he'll essentially be the second best in the world.

Ash is (or was) a fledgling trainer too, didn't legit win some of his gym battles in Kanto but still made it top 16 in his first League, with unevolved pokemon to boot. Iris being a champion after two whole generations she hasn't appeared in isn't exactly unfathomable. She just needed a clear goal regarding how she'll achieve her Dragon Master status, and probably decided that she'll become a champion of Unova to prove her skills.

I thought Iris was pretty strong?

•100 wins since she was a kid, evolved Drilbur before officially becoming of ages

•Her Dragonite was aggressive and disobedient but it’s a nice recoil for her to work around like Ash’s Charizard did. Why isn’t this seen as just as impressive?

•Won the Club Battle and beat Stephan who won the Clubsplosion with the same Sawk using her Emolga.

•Her Excadrill got its revenge against Drayden.

Now the one loose end, Axew seems like he’ll be Haxorus and it only didn’t evolve during BW because of popularity. It had Outrage and Giga Impact in its move set for fuck’s sake.
