Just needed more stats. Base 515 isn't that good for a Magikarp-like that evolves at level 39 THEN with a Thunderstone, when you get Gyarados which has way more at only level 20.

And Intimidate (or Moxie), a better typing (mono-Electric barely resists anything, never mind the no weakness thing), isn't slow as balls, a better stat distribution, and a great set up move.

Coalossal is a pubstomper. Pretty much anyone with more than four braincells knows how to handle it.
Also, unlike other WeakPoly abusers, it becomes completely useless the moment it gets Haze'd or forced to switch out.

The fact that a mon with a type as shitty as fire/rock with an ability that activates by being hit by a move that almost always kills you along with it having shit stats doing as well as it did is great. It will completely fall off the radar when dynamax is gone though.

Suffers from low stats. Attack stats too low to be an offensive threat, defensive stats too low to be a defensive threat. Mediocre movepool considering it has low attacking stats and no boosting moves. Also, physical Electric types are a meme, so it would've been much better as a pure special attacker instead of a mixed attacker.

Damn shame about its stats. +20 to all of its defenses would've made it a legit RU/UU threat. If you gave it mimic, it could run absolutely bonkers anti-shell smash sets that turn it into a possible OU-mon.

The thing is that now people know how to deal with it now.
It won the first 2 players cups and now people know it's a real threat they need to be prepared for.
It was overwhelming back when it was a surprise, but now it's nowhere near Mega Kang levels where it's necessary to win.

The weakness policy gmax colossal is still a decent strategy but I do agree with it not being near gen 6 mega kangaskhan level especially since weakness policy gmax Coalossal strategy can fall apart instantly just by tricking an eject button onto it which is why I usually run eject button grimsnarl as it either gives me a screen and free switch or break my opponents Dynamax turn 1.

also worth noting that coalossal teams got very far in the most recent player’s cup, showing up in the top 16. Considering how difficult it is to get to that position it’s clear Coalossal isn’t just some surprise gimmick, it’s an extremely powerful and versatile strategy that forces your opponent to play in a very cautious fashion that you can abuse even when Coal isn’t on the field.

movepool is wide but lacks the boosting moves it wants, high bp moves, and recovery

Pretty sure all postgame cross-gen evolutions were intended to be good, I never understood how they didn't realized that typing with these abilities wasn't a good idea
I hope they give it another chance and change their HA to give it Levitate at least
