>Gen 1 (3: Cut, Surf, Strength) >Gen 2 (5: Cut, Surf, Strength, Whirlpool, Waterfall) >Gen 3 Hoenn (5: Surf, Strength, Rock Smash, Waterfall, Dive) >Gen 3 Kanto (3: Cut, Surf, Strength) >Gen 4 Sinnoh (6: Cut, Surf, Strength, Rock Smash, Waterfall, Rock Climb) >Gen 4 Johto (6: Cut, Surf, Strength, Whirlpool, Waterfall, Rock Climb) >Gen 5 BW (1: Cut) >Gen 5 BW2 (2: Surf, Strength) >Gen 6 Kalos (2: Surf, Strength) >Gen 6 Hoenn (5: Surf, Strength, Rock Smash, Waterfall, Dive) Keep in mind this list does not include the useful Fly nor the kinda needed Defog. BDSP will be based on one of the two games with the highest amount of HMs needed to even get through the story. Do you think they'll fix this or it will be kept "faithful"?

They will get rid of HMs and put some sort of tool app in the Poketch instead. Inb4>heh he believes the Poketch will be in the game despite not having a second screen It'll be in the start menu like the Pokenav and Pokegear

all they ever had to do was make HMs into key items that can be used without teaching them

>>47281823 I never understood the problem with HMs as starting in gen 2 there was a move deleter and in gen 3 a dedicated tutor in game to relearn moves, not to mention Surf is genuinely a good move.

Ez way to fix HMs: you still need a poke that can learn it to use it, but it doesnt take up a moveslot

>>47283736 Alternatively: use the Poke Ride system, but instead of the mons being given to you you can assign any Pokémon you've caught to each function. Boxed mons can be called to perform these moves.

>>47283521 The problem is that you're still losing choices whenever they're used. You have 6 pokemon and 24 moves, but up to 2 and 6 of those spots are filled by what the game forces you to use.
One of the best parts of the game is experimenting and forming your own team of pokemon you find while adventuring. HMs take a large part of that away.

To fix HMs, I would:>remove HMs as items >convert HM field functionality to "field powers," that are attributed to every Pokémon innately, based on current HM distribution >Field powers have no secondary effects, only designate how Pokémon can interact with the game world >All Pokémon can perform their field powers without any requirements beyond obtaining specific Gym badges >Keep the HM moves and make them available via reusable NMs ("Natural Machine") with the distribution matching that of the new field powers (and thus, the old HM distribution) >NM moves can be forgotten at any time since they are not needed to interact with the game world This way, the feeling of growing and getting stronger with your team is preserved, but the restrictions of HMs are removed, with an option existing to use former HM moves if you wish. It also makes it simple to just pick up a Pokémon and go; no more hunting for a Surf HM, just catch a fishmon (or withdraw one from a PC) and go. The NMs could be available from shops or hidden in similar ways to how HMs have been traditionally.

>>47284541 Should also mention just in case it wasn't clear: every Pokémon of the same species would have the same access to field powers. Wouldn't make sense to tie that into any sort of RNG.
Anonymous
>>47284541 The only problem I see with this is that it still limits team choices. If someone doesn't want a Water type they just can't travel over water, which defeats the purpose of teambuilding being up to the player.

I just got done with HGSS and the HMs were as annoying as ever. Especially because I didn't want to use a flyer yet again. Whirlpool is like 3 times to its fine but you need others just to say access Red or Elite 4.

>>47284579 I've never seen much of an issue with this, since generally it just means swapping out one Pokémon for a route. It does annoy a lot of people though, so I suppose there's no harm in also making the Ride system available in addition to the changes I propose. I personally never liked Rides because they remove the feeling of empowerment and progression that comes with your actual caught Pokémon helping you move through the world, but having both options should make everyone happy.

>>47281823 HM's being cut was one of the few things nu-Gamefreak did right. Why did they play with the idea around HM's being key items in gen 2, but decided against it?
Anonymous
>>47283521 Because it's highly inconvenient. You still need a flymon to reach the move deleter, and a heart scale to get back a useful move. This wouldn't have been as much of a problem if each town had a move deleter, and relearning moves deleted by an HM move specificially didn't need a heart scale.

>>47281823 HMs were always a retarded way to railroad and they wasted Pokemon moves. the game's should have always been open world with gym leaders having full teams of well leveled Pokemon. The story could have been railroaded, but the gyms being blocked off by HMs which could only be received by defeating gym leaders in a specific order was a trash concept.

They already did it perfectly with SM I thought. SwSh they technically removed HMs? Only Surf and Fly existed K think

>>47284836 Gen 5 was perfect. They only require you to use Cut at exactly ONE point at the start of the game, just after the first gym. It shows the player that yu can access previously unaccessible areas with HM, and what a HM is.
Then they let you play the whole game without ever NEEDING to use a HM again, but if you do you can access "secret" areas with cool rewards and rare Pokémon, making the player EXPLORE.
Only retards who didn't bother to explore and backtrack complain that the region is linear. The game was made like that for the ADHD crowd that needs to walk forward, but the true conoisseurs got back to the first route once we got surf to check that previously unaccessible area, and found a fucking beach and got a Larvesta egg
