Brock is supposed to be Asian. The entire reason they briefly replaced him with Tracey in the anime is because Pokemon was starting to go global at the time, and they were afraid that people would complain about Brock being a racist stereotype because of his eyes, and so they removed. Then they brought him back when they realized that nobody cared.

there were stores selling Japanese Pokemon stuff to get more money from the whole craze, magazines talking about exlcusive stuff only happening in Japan, bullshit sites that posted about stuff that supposedly only existed in ~the Japanese version~, etc.
