Yeah 100%. It's lacking postgame, but the first 2/3 of the game is really fun. The region is fun to explore and there are a lot of cool pokemon. It's basically the last real pokemon game (before cutscenes and flags on the map), and is a great game to pick up and replay every few months

BW2 were the last games they put a ton of effort into, but XY are still fun to play. SM is where gameplay died and they started telling you exactly where to go because gamefreak didn't know how to effectively progress a story anymore

Diancie is the only pokemon in the entire pokedex that can convince me megas are a good thing. Its mega form should have just been an alternate form based on using a move, but it's such a cool design.

The encounter tables are fine after the 1st gym.
The game runs fine. D/P run like trash, Pt fixed it.
The map isn't "needlessly tedious". Carrying an HM slave isn't a problem.
The story is better than everything post-Gen 5

Why play XY instead of sticking with Gen V at that point? Did you ignore Z-moves and Dynamax for being cringe too assuming you were dumb enough to spend time playing gens VII or VIII, that is since those gimmicks were fruit of the poison tree you have declared Megas to be?
