>>47416485The appeal of a traditional RPG is continuous character progression, the appeal of monster taming RPGs is the same, but on your pets. This is the crux of the main campaign, but in the post-game it becomes more about theorycrafting and the actualization of those ideas, as is often the case for other RPGs with a reachable level cap and depth of options.
The main campaign has been kind of bland for a while. They shook things up a bit with totem pokemon in gen 7, but other than that they've been hyper-formulaic since forever, if you count Johto's 16 gyms as the same. They could still do cool things while muddling about in the same formula, but they tend to just not.
The post-game of ORAS was a sin. It's been getting stripped down more and more each gen. SwSh had to DLC a post-game in, because otherwise you only get a generic battle tower where you clap Leon's cheeks over and over. The battle tree at least had trainer recruitment for multi-battles and gen 5 had the PWT but if BDSP doesn't have a battle frontier then the amount of shits I give about it will be decimated.
