I think stories is neat and I love monhun, but pokemon has such a stranglehold on the monster catching/taming genre that it doesn't matter how good stories is, because pokemon will still dominate the market.

I played Monster Hunter, SMT, Pokemon, and Dragon Quest Monsters and I like all of the designs each franchise makes.

However, it seems that most pokefags feel that their Monster designs are superior just cause the games sell gangbusters.

Monster Hunter monsters are a lot more memorable than most individual pokemon in my opinion, but you can't "get it" just from an image. Their sounds, behavior, animations, theme music and fight are all tied to the gameplay and that is where their memorability comes from.

Armandimon came before Zigzagoon which is the point I'm trying to make here. They took the zigzag mouth, eyes, and nose and slapped them all onto a raccoon. Not that it looks bad or anything but theres no denying the lack of originality

Yes, because Pokémon has 25 straight years f indoctrinating kids into it and that's ignoring the outliers like me who would have been in their teens when it hit who'd have gotten into the grottier side of the art.

It's mostly that the end-game strong fights are largely dragons and the difficulty and effort put in to them tend to make them more memorable and thus more often favorites. A category of monster people often feel is neglected are the insectoid monsters who are rare but usually cool.
