Consistently across every depiction in every media in existence? Meganium

Typhlosion was my first starter but the jump to 3D wasn't so kind, Meganium is the one I've liked the most consistently when I look at it.

I don't know about that. Even the Aslowla starters had good attack stats and decent movepools. I don't think any future starters will ever perform as badly in-game as Meganium does

I'm convinced that it was and you could say that about all of them to be honestly
>Give Kanto's Sloppy Seconds for Stats (Typhlosion even got stuck with the dishonor being Charizard the Sequel, (you could over where the 109 SpA came from but everyone worships Charizard so Typhlosion is seen as the copy)
>Give shallow movepools compared to every other set of starters
>Didn't get their Hidden abilities until gen 5 was over and only Feraligatr's is consistently good. Flash Fire is too situational and is only an improvement because Typhlosion is so terrible already, and Leaf Guard is fucking Leaf Guard. Meanwhile 2 of the KANTO starter became OU viable because of of their Hidden abilities.

What does Gastly do for Chikorita? The only weakness of Chikorita's it covers is Poison with Dream Eater, and I don't remember Gastly being particularly useful against the early game gyms

You should play Polished Crystal. It makes Meganium Grass/Fairy, Typhlosion Fire/Ground, and Feraligatr Water/Dark, and it gives them new STAB moves for their secondary type

With Overgrow, it's a little better than Meganium, but not by much. Contrary Serperior, however, is a monster. Naturally high Defenses and Speed plus getting Sp.Atk boosts from Leaf Storm is a very good combination.

Unfortunately, Meganium's hidden ability doesn't do nearly as much for it, leaving it at the bottom of the heap

What the fuck were they even thinking with Leaf Guard? It's quite possibly the worst ability in the game that isn't a flat-out nerf like Slow-Start.

>Only on Grass types (the reason why this is a problem will be apparent later)
>Only works in Sunlight which powers up Fire types (meaning in practice the only time it works is when the user is about to be one shot by a boosted fire move the next turn).

I think the Chikorita and Totodile lines probably have better designs, but I can't help but like Typhlosion since Cyndaquil was my first pick

As a fellow Cyndaquil fan, I think the issue is that even among the Johto starters the Cyndaquil lines is extremely basic. Typhlosion is pretty much just Quilava but bugger except fr the flames, and they don't even show their flames most of the time in game (imagine Meganium without its flower for Gatr without its spikes).
