In fact, losing its immunity to Toxic and STAB on Sludge Bomb would make it worse.
Because of Poison, Gengar was a Chansey/Blissey counter, but with Ghost/Dark, it would need to rely on Taunt or Sub to avoid Toxic, something it can’t do while switching in.
Also Poison, while only hitting Grass before Gen 6, is better coverage for Ghost than Dark, as not only does Ghost have the same super effectiveness as Dark, but Sludge Bomb can poison walls, while Dark Pulse is slightly weaker and would need several flinches to help break walls.
