overall I'd say modern pokemon is better than the trashy games we got earlier.

Shared XP because pressing A over and over and switching your weak pokemon to some other was big cringe

Customization, always great to have more

OW encounters like anons already said, also way better

Better online in general

Fishing rod/bike earlier and not a need for HMs anymore

Being able to remember any move when you want

GMax/Dynamaxing and removal of Megas

Forward Im looking for being able to rename any Pokemon how many times we want to have all quality of life features checked

Trainer customisation, Pokémon Amie/Camp/things that generally let you interact with your Pokémon, overworld encounters although I wish they were more seamless and literally every improvement to breeding. Also 3dpd.

The online system means its no longer a pain to pay with friends
Likewise the ability to change natures/ivs is certainly appreciated to reduce the grind
Trainer customisation is good, let's me express my character
As much as I got the point of them HMs were a pain and I'm glad they're gone.

Not having to waste move slots or party slots for HMs.
More customization, even if it's still lacking in some aspects.
Megas, even if they're gone now. Mostly the ones that made shitmons actually viable (Mega Beedrill for example).
Reusable TMs, being able to change natures/abilities/etc means more customizable mons. Also means you can actually potentially use your cherished mons competitively instead of having to do some eugenics tier breeding.

No more "dungeons", I seriously couldn't believe people liked the absurd number of tunnels in Gen 5. More of a "modern games don't have that older games did have".
Characters I like. X/Y onward GF got better at characterization.
Mega/Dynamaxing. Mega Evolution is better but I don't hate the Dyna/Giga stuff.
OW mons
Sheer amount of QoL so I don't need to kill 100 Gastly for Sp. Attack points.
No HM's.

I liked pretty much everything about Let's go Pikachu, except for the new catch mechanics but even then that was just a preference for wild battles and not displeasure at the mini-game. It's a really good game.
