the green and yellow (i'm guessing) was to distinguish split evolutions, same goes for bellossom. GF wanted to showcase the new features/pokemon and made both have different coloring from their respective lines.

bellesom was clearly a racial thing and slowking has the same colors as slowbro, it was probably the case that politoed was a different pokemon entirely and they merged or replaced as a poliwhirl evoltuion

Yes I'm aware Bellossom was originally dark, but they didn't necessarily change it just because of the butthurt over Jynx from Americans (really just one black lady who cried to the media).
