I wouldn't want him to get unrealistically far, but with Goh's current best selection of Pokemon, it'd be nice to see him battle in the PWC as a means of getting stronger for Project Mew. Maybe his limit would be making it into the low Great Class, where the opponents would outpace him. It'd be nice to see him battle other trainers more, since he'd spend more time on the back foot than Ash typically does.

Goh isn’t fit for battles as he’s shown he isn’t all that good even with strong Pokémon. Which is where I think some of the complaints about him stem from. So many strong Pokémon at his disposal but will never be fully utilized. Scyther evolved and still is a jobber.

Shouldn't her antenna/sidelock be long enough to reach her chest without her helmet? They barely reach her shoulder.

Korrina's antenna/sidelock's hight are inconsistent. Sometimes those are super long and sometime small.

Half of the episode still was entirely focused on Goh using Pokémon he’s never used before as if he’s had them his whole life, freely catching Pokémon with his oddly talented catching skills, finally leading to him holding his own against a Pokémon that’s notorious for flat out one shotting just about everything in its path. At least with Lucario we know it was training it’s ass off as a Riolu, but Cinderace is a different story. I’m not even sure what point you were trying to move?

OLM can literally hire any single talent they want which they’ve proven time and time again. They’ve gotten the man for two movies, a special, and an episode last year. Do you honestly think they can’t get him for another? Hell they even said they could’ve gotten him for the BW movie but some type of contract was stopping them from going through with it. Yes, Cinderace should’ve been defeated the moment it got hit by Mewtwo’s first Shadow Ball, just like Pikachu. At least Lucario resists it. And it creating that giant Pyro Ball made no sense in regard to its skill level.

No episode this week. Episodes resume october 1st. The alcremie/leon/raihan ep is on the 1st. As of now the Mega Lucario ep is on the 22nd but we don’t know if thats been moved up a week like the October 1st episode, which was originally scheduled on TV guides for the 8th but got moved up. Apparently there are going to be episodes on the 8th and 15th though, so maybe it(mega lucario) hasn’t been moved up.

What’s wrong with you Goh defenders? Are you guys just not privy on the whole criticism thing? Goh has never interacted with majority of the Pokémon he’s caught, so how is he able to freely utilize them as if they were a toolset at his disposal with little to no effort? And don’t say “it’s only a problem when Goh does it” because almost every other new trainer that joined the group went through the same problems when they caught Pokémon, including Ash. It just adds to the inconsistency of his character because in another episode you’ll have Goh be clueless with adapting to a situation when he has over 60 Pokémon at his leisure.

And that’s the problem, because in any other series, even SM for comparison’s sake, wouldn’t let that happen. Example off the top of my head would be Pikachu and Rowlet battling Totem Gumshoos, with the less experienced Rowlet clearly struggling and eventually KOing while Pikachu is holding its own and able to finish it.

Like come on man, you don’t have to mindlessly defend every little thing.

They're Pokemon, recently wild. Of course they're going to know how to do things out in nature. Goh's playing to their strenghts.

Again, Goh isn't making his Pokemon battle other trainers or perform in Pokemon contests, he's using them to traverse. The same way Ash can ride on a random Flygon or hitch a ride on a Lapras. It's just nature.

I don't, a few of your points about Goh's inconsistency are correct. The most I can come up with is that he performs better when alone with Ash, and tends to lose focus when others are spectating, but that doesn't account for many instances where he suddenly is physically weak or strong, or confident or insecure. He could use work but his presence is still enjoyable to the show's benefit.

I agree. For every Pokémon Ash has had or released, I can name at least one real moment they shared that exemplifies that bond a trainer and a Pokémon are supposed to have. These moments are the reasons why we as fans even care about Ash’s old and new Pokémon in the first place. You honestly cannot get me to care about Goh’s Pokemon besides his starters, and even that’s a hard maybe, because 90% of them don’t even have anything setting them apart or actual personalities.

Remember back in 2019 that Garchomp toy with the female fin? Since we know Iris' Gible never evolved, it makes me wonder how far in advance this saga was planned out. A lot of the Pokemon heavy on merch from the first or second year wound up being featured eventually even if it took a long time to get there.

This episode is clearly for reintroducing Cynthia’s character, and I fucking love that they’re doing it by showcasing her actual CHARACTER rather than her ROLE. As opposed to just doing Cynthia vs Leon as her debut. Most of the returning characters didn’t have this(Korrina, Iris, Gary(although his was just really good overall so don’t really count this one)). Of course, their characters WERE showcased in the episode, but it almost felt like an afterthought to the requirements they had to move the story forward. Doing a multi-episode strat in which they introduce the character in one episode, then have the fulfill their role in others, is infinitely better. Dawn is an example of this kinda but I feel like that episode was kinda superficial and didn’t really showcase her character well.
This isn’t to say the past returns were BAD but it feels kinda like putting the cart before the horse.

To be honest that will be a Goh episode, leaving the reunion of Ash and Cynthia briefly, but it is because they have been building their confrontation for 3 seasons, Cynthia has always had that aura of mentor for Ash's "hero" journey, so it's obvious that they want to make their showdown more than just a casual battle, they will probably use that episode to remind the casual audience of who Cynthia is and her teacher-student relationship with Ash, using Goh as a narrative resource.

There is still a chance. This series has a weird thing where things are brought up, then we go 30+ episodes without seeing any follow up, and then the writers go back to it. Opal returned so its possible we'll see Ponyta if they go back to her town eventually.

It's technically still a retcon, an inoffensive retcon since it doesn't damage continuity, but it indeed changed the series by making Ash and Serena have a deeper connection beyond just meeting in a journey. Not too different from making new pokémon just exist in the anime world, except that one did affect continuity and still does.
