God, imagine if Genius Sonority had actually delivered on what was promised with this trailer. They could have changed the fate of the series completely. If Battle Revolution had succeeded, maybe they wouldn't have been absorbed by Game Freak, meaning they could have made another amazing 3D game for Gen 5, and been the blueprint for Pokemon going 3D in Gen 6. Also, Turner wouldn't be part of GF so he wouldn't have been able to create his shitty fakemons

nothing wrong about that, even Stadium 1 & 2 had more interaction in battles, you could see Drain Seed, poison and sleep statyus affecting the models, as well as Pokemon collapsing to teh ground while defeated

This is where cut GF some slack, yes they could do thousands times better, yet we all deep down know that they were attacked since day 1 by the likes of PETA about anime cruelty and had to tone it down even in the anime

Nobody gave a fuck about the speed of battles until swsh came along. They've always been slow either due to too many textboxes or animations that took a few seconds each, even gen 1 and 2, but as long as there was something happening on screen or it was your turn to press a button it wasn't an issue. I'm fully convinced this is just butthurt drones grasping at new straws after their previous arguments got torn to shreds and they can't accept that something they bought and enjoyed could possibly be a downgrade from what came before.

I mean fuck, a lot of that is just camera work and clever blending of animations and calculations so everything feels cohesive. Even with the lackluster mon animations in the current games, taking those same philosophies, integrating a more dynamic camera and overall more fluid pacing of combat would go a -long- way to making it feel a lot better

Seriously, the sword/shield turns could stand to be at least twice as fast

I remember there being some decade-old interview about this footage, something along the lines of it just being a cinematic. No build of PBR that looked like that ever actually existing, it was basically a concept video. It wasn't gutted, they never even tried to make it look like that at all.

Multiple body types is still too much to ask for from main series, and unnatural anime hair colors which took until swsh to get if I'm not mistaken. It wasn't sims level customization but it was really good by 2006 console game standards.

Having trouble finding Japanese footage to pull from but arcanine is one of the commonly cited changes. Pic related is international release and definitely not the n64 model anymore at the very least. Still looking.
