I thought it was pretty good. Not every rivalry needs to be some philosophical bullshit. I’m glad we got a rivalry where it’s just simply who’s the stronger trainer. The whole “Ash helps Bea have fun in battles again” thing was so unnecessary. Couldve just had it be Ash inserting his dominance once and for all and leave it at that.

People meme about the backlash with Ash losing in XY. But man, they really are trying to give Ash everything all of the sudden. Wins the Alola League and then very next season is beating Champions from multiple regions.

I think it was the one-two punch of BW regressing Ash and giving him an embarrassing loss to Cameron, then seeming like they were doing a course correction in XY setting him to win...only to have him lose again. Between that and social media being huge around that time it really clued the writers in what people want out of the show.

The reason Ash's loss to Tobias didn't register as much is because back in 2010 social media, at least for the Pokemon anime, wasn't anywhere as big as it is now. Back then people mostly stuck to forums even in Japan.

Back when DP was airing there were a lot of Misty fans hating on Dawn or Pearlshipping. I think people just don't remember this anymore because it was a decade ago and then Serena/Amour became the new big thing for them to fear.

Look, I love Bea's character, but she was criminally wasted, while with other rivals a story developed that generally culminated in the league playoffs, with Bea this was practically non-existent, and the worst thing is that they cannot defend themselves by saying that they did not have enough time to develop her character if it was shown in an animated short how this could be done perfectly, show their vulnerabilities, their motivations, their conviction, see how the character grows and develops.

To put 3 examples; a few minutes were enough to show us when Bea defeated Korrina, this after the combat would come to congratulate Bea and tell her how much she enjoyed their battle, this would generate a conflict in Bea by not understanding the concept of having fun in something that for her is something so serious, throughout her appearances this would be a constant that she tries to answer herself.

Another element that the writers would give her more motivations to be Ash's rival, not only the goal of dethroning Leon, using as context the supercompetitive world of Galar's Gym Leaders, during a conference with the other leaders one of these (Possibly Pierce, Gordi, or Raihan) made fun of her because a simple "rookie" drew against her, this would hurt her pride*

Finally, not necessary, but it would be fun, to see her side as a gym leader with an episode where we see her compete for control of her stadium against Allister, who despite her disadvantage will show her superiority, it would also have been fun to have Allister as comic relief.

The character had potential and was sacrificed why? to have a food contest episode? turtle race? Pikarla 2.0? Grookey and Eevee walking around town? colorfags episode?

Anyway what's done is done, maybe hopefully she will come back as a kind of coach.

*This would be especially humiliating since in-universe Galar's leaders are at the Elite4/Champions level from other regions and Ash's champion status is unknown worldwide

It absolutely means that considering they canonically all battle each other all of the time. Melony is definitely a case of that since Raihan can't beat her, either. Her type advantage helps a lot, though.

You may not believe, but what you believe doesn't matter. It was constantly brought up toward the game's release that th Galar Gym Leaders were much stronger and fiercer than previous ones due to Galar treating Pokemon like a serious sport with their leaders being extreme battle nuts. Lore wise, they're basically like Frontier Brains, but they're official Gym Leaders instead.

People complain less about first two tournament because they hoped there will be at least one Tournament that Ash wins until he lost all three of them.

It was always frustrating that Ash wasn't allowed to league tournament but it became even more irritating that the anime won't even allow Ash to win in the Tournament arc resembling a league arc.

Probably not with his apparently terrible cooking skills lol. They did love his cake though, so maybe he's gotten less awful by now despite still being so chaotic about it. Maybe they can all cook together, then you got the good combination of Gou making sure they stick to the recipe as much as possible, Koharu actually knowing what she's doing and Ash trying something crazy that surprisingly so elevates the taste.

The problem with Koharu is that many fans doesn't actually wants her to be the best girl because they see her as Goh's love interest. They want somebody else to be the best girl who happen to be within Ash's reach.

This probably why the anime didn't bother building any dynamic between Ash and Koharu because they doesn't want people to ship them. However most fans wants an eye candy to ship with Ash therefore Koharu is just a character they are forced to endure.
