There were already other Pokémon that fit better the "generic cat" trope, the ones that could be used for regional variants.

I hope we specifically get two more: a Rock variant and a Ice variant. That way, all five variants share a theme of being weak to Fighting.
My idea for the Rock variant would be a laughing Buddha statue - a chubby, happy Meowth form that remains immobile most of the time, and a bit of a stronger callback to Meowth's original inspiration.
For the Ice type, I'm not sure. Maybe like a saber-tooth cat, or some sort of theme that plays on an ice-cold personality. Kuudere Meowth maybe, haha

Most coins are round in shape with different designs on the faces. Each of Meowth’s coins are a different color and have a different number of lines, so I think it’s just a convenient way to showcase a “similar but different” design.
