>>48854591The zoomers here may not know this, but Gen 4 was the breaking point where a lot of fans started to get tired of the Pokemon formula. Not that it didn't have anything good going for it, especially compared to the modern games, but if you told an AI to create a Pokemon game, Gen 4 is basically what it would have made. That's why they tried to change things in Gen 5, and then when the fanbase rejected that, went full simplification with nostalgia bait for Gen 6 and beyond.
