There are different ways for setting up a pace, Call of Duty sets it up completely linear, you have to get to the credits once and it's okay.
I don't like Toby Fox at all, but Undertale/Deltarune and the "routes" (Endings i guess) set the pace for the game. Pokemon is one of the games that uses post-game because making you hunt for legendaries in the middle of a Gym leader badge-hunt + Elite 4 AND ALSO the narrative that the game could be fitting is retarded.
Super Mario Odyssey has post-game content that works. You could argue a lot of the Zelda games have a lot of post-game (shit you can do after defeating Ganon or whoever the final boss is)
