New games in a series should build on the previous entry. GS was the perfect sequel, not just in Pokémon, but in all of gaming. It's how a sequel should be done, and it's a miracle that GF actually pulled off something like that. RS was the complete opposite of that, and was a spit in the face to fans who were expecting more. Unfortunately, the fanbase has lost those standards over time, and now we are stuck being force fed shit every three years because of this.
And to rub salt in the wound, you couldn't even transfer from Gen 2 to Gen 3. I'm surprised RSE wasn't as controversial as Gen 5 or 8. I suppose the internet wasn't as widely adopted back then.
