>Gen 1I play Yellow, I'm stuck with Pikachu (but I don't care because I love that yellow Mickey Mouse), I take the starters they give you, and I mantain the Mr Mime you get in a trade. Pidgeot for fly.
>Gen 2I play Crystal, but to be honest, I never had a permanent team. I always swapped to whichever team may work at the time, mainly because I hate HM slave teams (may as well don't have a pokemon that useless).
But I always have Typhlosion, the Machop in Goldenrod, and one cheated Ampharos. Pidgeot again for fly.

Swampert, Ludicolo, Shiftry, Linoone, Gardevoir, and Sweallow. The Hoenn starters for the Battle Frontier.
