Flying type made it obscenely good in Gen 1. High Special, decent Defense, immunity to Dig and Earthquake, and only one weakness. Gyarados has to this day not fully recovered from the Special split.

Man i love the whole rags to riches gimmick gyarados has and its actual monstrous behavior. Its such a shame its mega evolution is so toned down, the dark typing is surely fitting but they made my boy smaller because???

Flying with ground coverage is a lot better than water with ground coverage.

Gyarados should have been recotned as Water/Dark and not Water/Flying. I know Mega-Gyarados is Water/Dark but regular Gyarados should be Water/Dark or Water/Dragon, not Water/Flying
