>>49209055It's been years since I've really watched the anime so I can't speak about recent antics, but James has been a very appealing character to me the whole time. He can be serious when he wants to, and is usually the butt of a joke that happens to go on, which kind of grounds his character a bit.
A friend of mine posed the question that "if the gang had split for whatever reason, who would hold their own as a character?" And I think the best answer is James, he could definitely hold himself as a character, but really is amplified by bouncing off of Jessie and Meowth.
The deeper nuances of his character development regarding his past is also an interesting factor, but I only vaguely remember much of it.
