Forced upon the player as well as being the only SE 'mon against the first gym battle.

The last one is the real issue, people give LGPE shit for forcing you to have a Grass or Water type before you can fight Brock but this is one step further than that.

I honestly believe the hatred around them was due to how BW handled them. No one likes being forced to do shit and making them a forced way to beat the first gym sucks ass. I feel they should’ve just been shake bush mons and have the player just solve the first gym fight by being a higher level.

Cause design wise they’re neat. They’re god fearing children being corrupted into sluts and monsters, but the moment you get it for free and are heavily forced to use it they become lame as fuck

What possible reason is there for not picking up the free win against the first Gym, especially considering the abysmal Pokemon variety available to catch at that stage in BW, and how tedious levelling is before Audinos show up

I’m not much of a fan personally but the “they’re forced on you” criticism is so retarded as you can go the entire game without interacting with the NPC who gives you them and the first gym is enough to brute force with your starter or a Lillipup.

I feel like it's more comparable to Starly by being a Pokemon you can just pick up and be a keystone member of your team. Fletchling needs its HA and it's only good in Gen 6.

Thats why.
If their designs were more imaginative they wouldnt have been an issue.
For example the hippy water one.
Why the fuck doesnt it have some sort of pipe that makes bubbles.
The grass elvis is the best of the designs but again, give it a plant microphone qnd dont make it green.
The fire greaser could make a flame comb from its fingers to brush back its hair.
So many ways to get the concept across without just being colored copies of eachother.

Look, I really like SImisage. He's the first grass monkey in the series at long last and he has a cool pompadour. He also has personality such as him sticking his thumb up, that smug face in the 2D sprite, and him doing a side flip in the 3D model.
As for Simipour, she's rather cute. A feminine monkey with a dress that is first for being a water elemental monkey.
Simisear is really the only monkey of the trio that's slacking. A fire monkey was already done and there's not much interesting about it. I understand why people don't like it and I sympathize with the very, very few that do like it.
Overall, for me, 2/3 of the trio is great and doesn't deserve the hate.

I remember the free Pansear being kinda bad desu. Or maybe it was just that Incinerate had a shitty Base Power of 30? I dunno. But I never kept him on my team. I found Chandelure later on in the game and never looked back. I imagine other players may have felt the same way.

Yeah Pansear gets massively outclassed by the other Unova Fire types despite being a mixed attacker.
Emboar is bulkier, Darmanitan hits harder, Chandelure, Volcarona, Victini, and Reshiram all nuke shit harder, I'd say the only Gen 5 Fire Pokemon Pansear and Simisear outclass is Heatmor and that's just because Heatmor is slow as shit.

I get that they're optional but they're still attached to a pretty shitty tutorial that lasts too long just to teach the player about types and weaknesses. I'm not retarded. Also I dislike that you get one based on the starter you chose, I like Simisage best but you have to pick Tepig to get it early. I think it would have been better if you got one monkey that evolved into the Simis, maybe that's rehashing Eevee though.

Pansear is one of my favorite fire types but Simisear looks ugly. I remember the sugi interview where he said he gave the first forms oven mitt hands because they helped out at the restaurant with the twins and was super charmed by it, it sucks that they lose that charm upon evolution, I get that they go from good kids to delinquents, but they just didn't hit the landing.
Simisage looks cool though, but I'd just keep them all unevolved.
