Probably not. These are easily the best and Gen 8 didn't even come close, much as I do like Gloria. Chicken is top tier and Elio is as good as it gets for that upbeat kid hero look. Gen 7 was a goddamn symphony of good and memorable character design, just smash hit after hit after hit.

Lol no. Red being iconic aside, Hilbert is a really good design. You can tell from his appearance that he's older than your usual Pokeprotagonist and it's a nice simple design that an actual person would wear.

Plus, the hat resembling a Pokeball is fucking great.

But I agree with this, older designs looked more rough and ready for adventuring shit, but SM at least kinda look like they're on a laid back vacation which fits

gen ii had the better protagonist designs.
Also had the best art direction in the entire franchise, so much so that it still holds up better than recent entries despite the gen ii poke designs not being especially great.
