Game balance for gen 6. Gen 5 was dominated by powerful Dark, Fighting, and Dragon Pokemon so they needed a new type to counter them hence Fairy typing. Imagine how much of a menace Hydreigon would be without fairies? Then the marketing team made fairies the feminine/gay type for some reason.
