Because they are a bunch of annoying but loud group of crybabies. Clemont doesn’t look good but he doesn’t look bad either. It’s the fact that the PM art style lacks shading for the most part just like SM, so a character like Clemont will noticeably look a lot more flatter

Clemont definitely looks better in updated picture and in the OP, though unfortunately in the OP Bonnie looks pretty bad(she's looked bad across all of the media shown thus far tbf. That has more to do with Journey's color choices I feel

Those people are unironically retarded. They look nearly the same because the fucking anime has been much more faithful to Ken Sugimori's modern style since midway thru Gen 5. Ash was the only character in Gen 6 that still hadn't been redesigned to fit it.

After muling it over, I think the unusually large distance between Chloe and the boys in this image is because there was originally another guest star sitting there but they had to edit it out last second for some reason.

If there is anyone with good sketching skills. I need them to fill in the missing person. Just fold the bottom half of this over the top half when you are done and scan it and upload it.
I figure it'll be obvious to everyone when the correct sketch comes along. Everyone will go "Aha. That's right. There can be no mistake."

I never watch Journey's to end. This is what I always wanted the Pokemon anime to be, not locked into whatever the current gen is, but Ash able to use Pokemon of all gens and bringing back tons of old characters, as well as new characters the original sagas skipped over like Lisia, Drasna, and so forth.

If we go back to Spain only and all old characters stop appearing again, I bet half the fandom will complain and didn't realize what we took for granted this series. I'm indifferent whether Go leaves or stays but I hope the world tour format continues.

The first year of Journey's is a bit of a mixed bag since a lot of eps are just to introduce Go to old pokemon, but it picks up after.

Unfortunately Ash's Pokemon don't get much screentime outside of battles this series, so the biggest flaw with his current team is we really don't get to know them like all his past pokemon.

I don't like the battles. I think they're good on paper but they tend to be lackluster and bland compared to XY and even SM.
Like that Ash vs Marnie battle, where both Pokemon had types SE against one another, was league below the Brock vs Kiawe battle in SM.
Same shit with the final Ash vs Bea battle. Whenever Dynamax is used the writing starts to stink.
Ash is literally too powerful for this tournament. You give his top 3 mons gimmicks and the next three are a Dragonite and a fucking Dracovish. That team is a goddamn wrecking ball and the writers know it.

I really don't understand why ASAWfag acts the way he does in the first place. He stalks and harasses other people, impersonates people he doesn't like, spams, asks people to do what he himself refuses to do, alienates people who should be his allies, contradicts himself , and worst of all, not only has double standards but acknowledges it and likes it that way. There's no problem with Ash being powerful. If Ash brought back reserves for the PWC, it would make perfect sense and he would be uber powerful. The problem is that his Pokemon's development and battle prowess don't have the backing to justify it up until this point so they've now been forced to backload a lot of this will simultaneously depowering supposed Champions like Iris. The problems build on themselves in all the contradictions with how the PWC functions as well

You seem to have contradicted yourself. He can't bring back reserves because that would make him too powerful. But as he is he's already stupid strong on the basis of gimmicks and what species of mons he has.
He basically crushed Volkner, who was stronger than in DP, and Iris, who definitely was stronger. He didn't even try for type advantage like against Tobias.

Anyway I've noticed lot of the complaints people have come down to Ash not having enough on-screen training for his team, which I agree with, but I also think people have rose-tinted glasses in terms of how often we actually got to see Ash train his 'mons in other series. A lot of times it was just Ash or someone else saying "whew we/Ash sure trained hard" at some point during the episode, and we're meant to understand he did it a lot off screen.

I don't think it's rose-tinted glasses as much as there actually being a difference between how much development in show between JN and other series. I think only Ash's Johto team is as bad. However, what compounds this and makes it even worse is that this supposed to be the ultimate tournament. I think people are forgetting that which makes training and building Ash's team to actually feel powerful that much more significant and it's also why it's much more of a problem that is really hampering the show for me

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a lot more training episodes, and I do get what you're saying about this being the ultimate tournament, but it seems to me that instead of significantly changing the way they've shown training compared to the last 2 or 3 series, they instead opted to give Ash a team that has started off at a much higher power level and went from there. Dragonite and Gengar both came fully evolved, and the former especially was already crazy strong even before any training we're assuming he's getting.

On the other hand, Riolu and Farfetch'd are more like standard Ashmons, but they've gotten their own focus episodes. If you compare Lucario to Noivern or Scraggy (also Eggmons) I would Lucario has gotten a fair bit more screentime, though I do get that part of that is because they want to shill Lucario. Sirfetch'd, on the other hand, I'm not sure has been any worse off in terms of just straight screentime compared to someone like Hawlucha. But Sirfetch'd has just been jobbing for a while now so I don't know how much of a disconnect there is there. We're gonna have to wait to see how they handle vs Drasna, but if they don't do it right, I suspect I'll probably have pretty similar complaints to you. Mega Altaria is not only a Mega'd mon, but is owned by an E4, is probably her ace, and has type advantage against Sirfetch'd.

I doubt this was the intent, but even if it was, it's conceptually a bad idea. Starting Pokemon off with a much higher power level already hardcaps development opportunities and the coherent narrative progression that comes along with it. The many problems with this approach have already bore fruit with Ash's Pokemon coming across as fanfiction powerhouses with exceedingly sporadic development.

And I think both have been mishandled, albeit in different ways. Riolu had the most potential out of all of the other Ash mons with how much time they put into it as a Riolu and developing its personality and even gave it something the audience could look forward to. However, as soon as it evolved, it proceeded to stagnate as a Pokemon not showing up for like 20+ episodes besides the random Cinderace bro episode. Then randomly again after not showing up, the mega evolution episode come out of nowhere. And no, I'm not saying they needed to retread Korrina's arc with her ML, I'm saying there should have been some sort of development arc in general. Instead, we got a very subpar episode with Korrina in ML island that didn't have much of the trappings of what made Riolu a strong character, let alone comparable to some of Ash's other episodes. Literally the next episode they battle Bea where Ash and Lucario master ML after the quickest of conflict between them and win. This isn't good writing. The problem with Sirfetchd is simpler in that he simply wasn't that interesting of a Pokemon to begin with(imo though ig) and his development has also combined sporadic with jobbing.

What I still find strange to this day is how XYfags are unique in that most of them never gave the suceeding series a chance. DPfags were cautiously optimistic about BW and didn't really hate it until Pikachu lost to Snivy. SMfags continued on into PM and are some of the biggest Gohfags and Koharufags today. Meanwhile most XYfags dropped after XY ended and never gave SM or even PM a chance. I don't think all could be blamed on the artstyle change either since PM is quite popular among fans of most series except XYfags, who really only cared about PM when Korrina and Clemont/Greninja showed up.

It's interesting when you think about it. SMfags didn't drop the show in droves after SM ended and most are still watching today. XYfags and OSfags are the only ones who mostly gave up on the anime once their series was over.

In the OS he only lost to Lorelei/Prima which makes sense. In AG he lost to Drake but Grovyle wasn't fully evolved, and against Agatha he did decently till he forgot Pikachu's normal attacks don't work on ghost pokemon.

Speaking as someone who considers themself a XYfan, I stopped watching for the same reason I started, the formula. XY was a change in pace, the show became something I actually wanted, a passable shonen battle anime with some actual potential to break the losing streak and win his league. SM decided it wanted to be cuter, more slice of life and humorous and all around a different kinda show. That's fair but it's not really what I was interested in. And sure while he won that league in the end, there really just wasn't hype going into it like there was for XY, which laid it on thick that it was going to be a cooler more serious show. The only reason I didn't pick up PM is because I literally did not know it was happening. No one talked about PM like they did about XY, hyping it up as a formula breaker and a return what I wanted to see. I only got back in because the new intro went viral on twitter and my shonen poisoned brain got hooked.
And sure, you could say what I want is shallow, but this is the fucking Pokemon anime, it's always going to be shallow. XY was Shallow, SM was Shallow, PM is Shallow. We're all waist deep in this shitty 25 year old anime about an eternally 10 year old boy, no one here has any right to judge.

That's all that needs to be said. PM Ash wasn't "reset," and he's the most experienced version of Ash. He's battled Frontier brains, ace trainer, champion's, 50+ gym leaders, etc. If he doesn't know how to train up a decent team after 1000 episodes and several movies, then that's more of a problem then Ash at his peak doing things that he couldn't have done before.

I watched pokemon from the beginning till XY and from that final lost burned me the fuck out. SM just didn't get my attention and everything about it was weak. The whole "Ash can't win a league" rule was one of the most fascinating and weird things in all of media. It's not like they had any problems resetting Ash after he made it to semi-finals/finals in league competitions, so the excuse that it wouldn't make sense to nerf him when he made it so far wasn't the problem. The explanations that were always tossed around made no sense either - like "Oh well then he will have accomplished his goal and the show would HAVE to end." Like... you doofus writers, YOU define what the pinnacle is, just portray new tournaments as the next steps. If they seriously couldn't think of any way to move forward after two decades of that then they are either very uncreative or very lazy indeed.

Man it's so friggin basic, but Ash and Go having an argument over the right way to handle pokemon is like, way more interesting than most of the series has given us. It reminds me of Paul and Ash's different philosophies in training all the way back in DP.

I'm not asking for every episode to feature a fight, I'm talking about a philosophical difference the two have in the way they approach pokemon, and for that to come up throughout the series, leading to some character development as the plot eventually leads them to understanding each other

yeah but that's only if you think of Pokemon as animals seperate from nature, but if you think of Human and Pokemon society and intricately linked, then helping a pokemon that's struggling would be the natural thing to do. Compared to the mysteries of Pokemon, humans are a known quantity. It's a given that Ash will help a Pokemon scale a wall if it needs to, there's no research to be done there. However, if a Bulbasaur was compelled to rendezvous with its brothers and sisters in a high place, but was faced with an obstacle too high to climb, what would it do? Would it ceaselessly attempt to scale the same wall over and over again, or seek another route? How would it behave after being faced with an impassable obstacle? This is the point of research, to answer these questions to attain a better understanding of each species. Ash butting in kind of ruins the whole exercise, at least in terms of minutia. Ash makes up for it later, but in that moment he was a hindrance to the study.
