Good question, I love the designs of all of them. Chan is the only really viable one as a type cover with elemental punches though. Maybe we will get elemental regional ones in the future to give them more coverage.

Variants in SV, Hitmontop is red and finally on his head again (Fire/Fighting), Hitmonchan gets flippers and his gloves become bubbles (Water/Fighting), Hitmonlee’s body becomes tree back and his arms and legs become vines (Grass/Fighting). Tyrogue looks slightly different to have a type trio design element but is still mono Fighting. Your rival uses whichever Hitmon is strong against your starter.

Lee is actually the best one in comp. Fake Out, HJK, Stone Edge EQ or rapid spin makes it a decent revenge killer in lower tiers.
It can also curse and use white herb with unburden

What if hitmonchan had an ability to give itself a secondary type based on whatever elemental punch it uses? Kind of like kecleon but not total shit also just give it access to all the punching moves the punching pokemon shouldn't be locked off from a punching move

He has a lot of ways to proc it.
Fight gem or white herb, sub or endure with berries that proc on low hp.
Top is still probably the best overall though, fake out+intimidate is too valuable in doubles to be ignored.

Hitmontop needs to lean into his gimmick of having a bajillion priority moves more. Because his whole "Mono Fighting Special tank" is bad even in story. Give him an ability that boosts priority moves or something.

I honestly don't understand the purpose of making signiture moves if they are weaker than other widely used moves. They just end up not being used at all and not helping the mon in the slightest to be competitively viable.

Actually they're named after and presumably to an extent based on a Japanese kick boxer and boxer the Chan and Lee simply being the most recognizable asian martial artist in the west therefore the name change
