>>50501952Honestly she was pretty rage inducing in GS. While she doesn't give you a challenge she couldn't complete and awards you the badge with no hesitation once you do, the actual "challenge" is a disappointing waste of time and the only worthwhile reward is the thing you already earned that Clair was withholding from you. She doesn't apologize and she doesn't get put in her place. She comes out looking too good, as if her only fault was doubting you rather than, you know, refusing to give you what you've already earned. Clair acts like a bitch and gets away with it.
I don't know if they realized all of this but everything is done better in Crystal. Clair comes off as even more of an ass because she doesn't expect you to pass the test (because she hasn't) and is incredulous when you do. But the change of the challenge from a scavenger hunt to a character test not only turns out more rewarding for the player who makes all the right choices, but reflects badly on Clair, who hasn't passed what is honestly a laughably simple test. Clair is humbled with you beating her twice and her grandfather chastising her for her actions, even threatening to inform Lance if she doesn't do right. But it's not all bad on Clair, she goes out of her way to apologize and make amends for what she's done. The softer, tsundere interaction during also works better after she has been beaten like that. It all shows that although she is still pretty haughty, she's not so much a bad person but a proud and, yeah, insecure person who has a rare moment of unprofessionalism because she's not used to losing to anyone but Lance. We are better encouraged to not take things too personally (that's HER flaw) and gives room to like and sympathize with her on a deeper level, which has been the direction since Crystal.
