The community has flipped their opinions on those generations over the years. Gen 2 is way more hated than it was before where as the community thinks Gen 5 is one of the best generations if not the best.

The main I had with problem with gen 5, or rather with BW, is that you couldn't catch any pokemon from previous gens, none at all, during the main game. I understand why GF went for that decision, but it probably alienated a lot of players.
B2W2 fixes this, I know, but it was too late.
I don't think it sold as well as BW.

I never noticed gen 2 hate until recently. In fact, gen 2 had non-stop praise for the most part. Gen 5 wasn't received that well at launch but the opinion on it has flipped completely.

It’s just a small minority that spams their hate about the gens. Most people have these gens as their favorites which makes these autists mad. Also the average person on /vp/ wouldn’t make 20 threads about loving these gens, but someone who hates these gens would make 20 threads shitting on them.

There has always been criticism, you can search the archive for the usual flaws and see posts there going back at least 9 years. Johto fans have just acted like it isn't real every time and then been suprised by "new" hate months or weeks later.
