Honestly what ranked them for me was the growth of the protagonist partner
Sky went from a wimp to a chad
Rescue/DX had the classic shounen best friend set up who always supports and believes in you
Gates had a bit of shounen but added idealism to the character who always put dreams and their own beliefs ahead
Super was Hyper egao
I just want another PMD its been to long since DX and that was a remake, we need a new story

Do you know how many isekai are out their and the genre is still popular as hell despite some many being so bloody similar but still so many get their light novel to manga to anime?
Pokemon can keep it going, its not about running out of ideas, its about setting the right people to work on the project and introducing new Japanese writers into the Pokemon and letting older writers provide their own feedback/opinions.

Sky adds far more shit than just sky peak and the episodes.
There are tons of items, game mechanics, dungeon layouts, tilesets and other improvements through Sky, it's basically a mini-expansion pack.

I can't find the interview but I remember something along those lines when talking about Super.
It makes sense anyway, the core themes of every games story is exactly the same and Explorers/Gates executed it the best.
There is nowhere else for them to go unless they want to drastically change the narrative of the game.

Explorers is good, especially the characters which are generally better than Rescue Team, and there is obviously much more content.

But Rescue Team is overall a better game.

It rips off the entire storyline but replaces the "am I the bad guy?" section where your friends reluctantly turn against you, into some silly time travel shenanigans that make zero sense under scrutiny for the sake of some cheesy anime sacrifice.
The story of Rescue Team is more grounded, but at the same time more emotionally sound. The story of Explorers is a soulless action movie copy of it.

Autists are attracted to cartoonish simpleness when it comes to emotions. They need these kinds of "big moments" where it is immediately obvious what they are supposed to feel. If a scene is over the top, that makes it clear to the autist that this is an emotional scene.

Actually they exaggerate those emotions because it's cartoon, and so to make the viewer more invested into the show, they create those strong emotions, not because autists can't comprehend when something is emotional, but because it would be extremely boring to any viewer if there are no strong emotions involved

I liked that Rescue Team never limits your partners, it feels nice recruiting some level 5 aron in Thunderwave Cave and taking him all the way to Sky Tower for every story mission and I was really disappointed not being able to do the same in Explorers
