I mean Gen 1 overall does sure, but there's some gems in Yellow's sprite

Don't think we've ever gotten a better Blastoise sprite, Haunter's cool, sort of like a midpoint between the genuinely creepy RB sprite and more modern looks, best Kadabra, Clefairy, Eevee, Koffing, Gloom, and Machop of Gen 1 easy to name a few

There are some really great ones and on average it looks better than RBG.

To me they are wildly inconsistent. You have a lot cases in which the official art design is both more detailed and similarly well composited to the older sprites, or in which the official art design is simply vastly better looking, pose be damned. But in other places you have sprites that are both oddly set and don't represent the official art very well or just look zoomed out, say Venusaur, Beedril, Dodrio, Aerodactyl or Jynx, in which I'd prefer the Red/Blue sprite for simply for better posing.

pokemon going more in the direction of the anime is soulless. RB story/lore and the lack of story and lore in some areas is great. When the game gets translated to the anime too much gets filled in and the creatures themselves get changed in terms of art direction to make it easier for them to be marketed and to be animated. Which is less soulful than only needing to render sprites and single still watercolors

they always felt off to me since I never played Yellow
it's like an awkward phase between RB and GSC
they still have the jankiness of gen 1 sprites but are missing the wacky charm RB sprites have so it feels a little soulless by comparison
