And Hop is one of three rivals. Unless you're being super pedantic about needing to start from the same town, Marnie and Bede are for all intents and purposes rivals. Probably even more rival-like than most of the X and Y crew.

Lillie is not a rival, actually is of the few pokémon relevant characters that are NOT trainers (UltraSlur & UltraMood doesn't count, AU bullshit.)

Shauna is a friendly rival (OVERLY friendly like everything on XY)

Marnie (even when she appears like 2 times in the whole game) is a rival too.

Are they girls? YES.

Surprise motherfucker. Since Gen 5 or if you want since Gen 3 we have a female friendly rival. Marnie isn't even the "friendly" one more like tough love.

I mean being blatant designated girlfriend characters. Yancy too, though she was completely disconnected from the main game and didn't even appear if you were Rosa.
The dialogue differences between genders for Shauna and Lillie clearly lean more romantically for male players. Shauna's was really minor, but it was there. I don't think Marnie had anything as blatant as that but she was a main girl in a way that only Lillie had been before.
