Why did they make Iris the champion in BW2 instead of Hilbert/Hilda? Was it because she was one of the companions in the anime?

In the games? Hilbert/Hilda were never seen again after the end of BW. In the anime I don't think they ever show any of the PC unless it's a short clip here and there. Also you have take into consideration that cunny

It was stated in B/W that she had extremely high potential as a dragon master, because she was so proficient and skilled with Dragon Types, which in lore are usually among the most difficult to train and master.

She was 10 when she became a very competent gym leader, and apparently was so good that less than two years later she beat the Elite 4, clutched a battle against Alder, and he decided to retire, letting her by right have the championship for defeating him.

They did ma boi Alder dirty. Despite him being a Unova champion, he isn't a final challenge in BW (N is) and in B2W2 he gets replaced with the worst Ash's companion.

Is there any bigger jobber than bug catcher Alder? Losing to N is understandable, but losing to a 10 year-old girl? You don't even battle him until the postgame rematches. If it wasn't for Volcarona he would be more forgettable than even Diantha.

In the past, Alder's starter Pokémon died of illness, and in despair over not being able to save it, he began traveling around aimlessly. Before his partner's death, the two of them madly pursued strength, much like Cheren did. The Pokémon's death changed Alder's outlook on life. The identity of this Pokémon is never mentioned in Black and White, but dialogue in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 reveals that Alder's late partner was Larvesta/Volcarona.

Ghetsis suggests that Alder may not have actually won the title of Champion, instead being requested by the Pokémon League to take the position. It is said that Alder instructed the Elite Four to look after Unova as he traveled around the region.

People generally don't like their player character having a defined history or current stat. This doesn't apply to May and Dawn as they were too early, but you can see subsequent player characters don't make appearances in the main anime.

The Champion position become vacant, giving Iris an opportunity to become the Champion because not only she really wants it, also no-one could oppose her (Hilbert/Hilda went missing).
Personally Hilbert/Hilda should appear in Entralink instead, entrapped in Pokémon Dream World. (based on manga)

But in reality, it's an easy excuse for GF because some fans will get triggered if B2W2 protag(s) crossed path with BW protag(s). You'll see Ethan met Red at Mt. Silver again. (desu for me, B2W2 is like Johto to what BW to Kanto but absolutely half baked. I consider B2W2 as Gen 5.5)

They'd basically have to make Memory Link mandatory, otherwise the Unova Champion wouldn't line up with who you were in BW, something that'd be extremely noticeable in a more direct sequel. Wouldn't be good for the anime either since they're allergic to male protagonists showing up and the female protagonist would be a complicated scenario too given they usually co-star with Ash, and having TWO gym challenger tacklers wouldn't do too good for the show's formula.
From there it was probably a 50/50 between Drayden and Iris to mirror what Lance did after Red fucked off, and Iris won out due to anime relevancy. Thankfully they weren't required to bother with Iris' victory over Alder until they could offscreen it like the games, and that took until Journeys even.
