Why is this personalityless team the strongest? They have almost no development. At least the other teams had outstanding pokemons, it would be better to get one from each series. Hell the Alola team appeared in almost every episode.

Leon has a plot-contrivance unanimously agreed by the majority to serve no further purpose than serve as a milestone in the Anime in contrast to the accumulated agreement of experience and knowledge of Cynthia. We saw Cynthia being ridiculously being strong and classy in all manners as opposed to Leon needing the coatride provided by Tomiyasu's Sol-Verse building, which lets pre-sm trainers appear as weaker versions to buff his narrative argument, alongside contradictions of Ash's perspective and consistency in his behavior regarding competive behavior.

Tl;Dr: Tomiyasu should have only handled SM and handed the director job to someone else for the WCS

I've been going back and watching the old Leagues in order and it really is amazing how much better of a trainer Ash is now
I'd almost forgotten the kind of dumb choices he used to make. He looks like a total amateur in some of those early matches.

It was a concept art (kinda like a key art poster but without the ad text spam) with Ash in the middle, I don't recall whether my source said he was wearing a different outfit. I'll go ask and get back to on that. He did note that there weren't any other human characters in the picture and it really was just a concept art. However this implies that they are in fact using Ash next series, no? Even if it was just a JN Ash png in there the intent is the same

Could have been for Pokemon Masters since he just came out for it. They don't use generic fonts for new series art, look at the old BW leaked art from 2010 it has Ash in BW clothes with the Best Wishes logo present. If it doesn't have a new Ash design/clothes and series logo it's unlikely for the anime.

Also nowadays that Ash's face and design changes so drastically between series, if Ash is shown certainly people would ask if he still looks like he does in Journey's or they changed his face design again to something else.

Nah it was specifically for the anime, that's for certain (went back to check date, was about feb 23)
OLM execs had come to the meeting, mainly to announce that they had pretty much finished production on PM and were discussing the upcoming final content of the series in addition to their steps for the SV anime
Mainly that they would be using the rest of the series to slowly separate Ash and Goh, reserves would return, etc. They showed that art and the source inferred that only Ash would be continuing to SV
Also they specifically stated that they won't be using the "world tour" format of JN again, as it led to a lack of Gen 8 promotion(remember that this is an investors meeting, its a major point of contention for them)
They mainly did it because 25th anniversary
OLM was investigating/researching SoL/School series at the time for inspiration for the SV anime
There's a lot of stuff that was discussed about the games of course (as well as in subsequent meetings) but its not my place to post any of that
Basically the anime portion was a small part of the actual full course of the meeting; they didn't actually talk that much

This is just my personal opinion obviously but I feel like the clear direction would be to have Ash be a battle instructor or something at one of the schools in SV
We could have new trainers developing their skills and stuff, and competing in gym challenges or even tournaments between the schools
Throw in some M8 battles every now and then and fans would be satisfied

From an economic standpoint, obviously the most important period is roughly the first year after the game's release which has the vast majority of sales
However, Pokemon is more than just the game sales; in fact, its not necessarily their main form of income anymore
The actual brand and design of the new Pokemon, and their popularity, is more important for the long term than the game's sales. The most popular Pokemon that PRINT money from merch aren't popular because of the games they are in
The anime is one of the primary avenues of advertising individual Pokemon to a wide audience; if they aren't using Gen 8 stuff, it becomes less likely for certain mons and characters to have staying power

Of course, that's merely potential; there's no guarantee that it'll have long-term popularity like some other regions, nor is the anime the ONLY source of this; there's plenty of other supplementary media that shilled Gen 8
But it's still a major piece that millions of people watch, and not having that is a wasted opportunity from a marketing standpoint

Ideally make the series take place in a new continuity, easy to get rid of the weight of Ash’s achievements in the original timeline. As many have said, they can continue the M20 timeline Ash.

But if they actually thought these things through, Ash always handicaps himself every series starting with new mons. So whatever challenges or adventures come up in Spain might not necessarily need to be influenced by the fact that he beat Leon.

Expect it wasn’t a detriment at all since Gen 8 sold very well. The anime just isn’t that important to the games sales and hasn’t for some time. Same thing with Legends. The anime did nothing with it’s content and sold just fine.

It could just be an introduction to the format. Ash being enrolled in another school still means he has to stay in mostly one place with another set of classmates. Even if say it's more serious than SM, it's still the same thing. It just feels like re-doing what they did already.

It is not only a rehash, but the school thing was one of the big criticism fans had of SM. It is why they kinda of backtracked from it as SM went further along.

If Ash wins against Leon, I think they just reboot the entire anime like Adventures did in 2020. They will just find a way to incorporate gen 9 stuff like movie 20 did with the gen 7 stuff and Lucario and Piplup.

Not really. Each series gets lower ratings then it's predecessor. DP overall had lower ratings then AG. SM had worse ratings then XY and XY did worse then BW. Pokemon is an old show that repeats a lot of the same shit even with a revolving cast. So it isn't surprising that each series does worse then it's predecessor.

My source is someone who has proven (to me privately) to have accurate info regarding the games, they don't tend to get anime stuff because OLM doesn't show up at meetings all that often
Basically this person sits in(claims to; they very well could be an assistant or family member to someone who actually does and I would never know otherwise) on these big board meetings between the major companies involved with the franchise
I can't post any of that info here for obvious reasons
Basically it's up to you whether to believe me or not, it doesn't particularly matter either way
With regards to the reserves: reminder that this was said literally months ago, before Greninja was even revealed to be returning in the anime
Between that and the Paul episode I think it's fair to say that "reserves are returning"
With regards to their future role, it's clear Ash isn't going to use them in the PWC or anything like that
When I talk about gen 8 mons showing up, that doesn't mean it has to be in contrast to popular shillmons like the ones you listed
The problem is that they don't show up at ALL; to my knowledge, a little less than half of the galar pokedex still has not debuted in the anime
In order to showcase these pokemon, they could give them to supporting characters, or even have individual focus episodes on them
However, this is not the case; we see focus given to mons like Aerodactyl, Flygon, Absol, Floette, Unown/Cleffa, Volcarona, Kingdra, etc.
These are all mons who got individual episodes as opposed to involving Galar mons or characters for...little to no reason
About the gen 8 staying power: you got it a little mixed up
When I say "gen 8", I'm not just talking about the games themselves
I'm talking about the region as a whole: the locales, the pokemon, the human characters
Some gen 8 mons are ALREADY popular, like Cinderace and Urshifu(comp fans)
However, the anime not advertising the gen as a whole naturally is missed "marketing potential"

This is unprecedented, at least to my knowledge about the show

Except it isn't. Gen 8 as a whole (games, merchandise etc) did much better then gen 3-5. Those gens were primarily focused on the new characters and new Pokemon. Anime not focusing on gen 8 that much isn't a decision they even make on their own. The truth is that game adaptations is an outdated model especially with Pokemon that has gotten so big and has so much stuff to promote now. I don't see how TPC can be upset with this given that this is the direction they pushed for.

Along with this directorial change came the Goh and Chloe changes you mentioned (Goh was planned to shift from the start; it was just a matter of Yonemura being able to figure out how to implement the PoGo stuff from the scrapped preproduction script they had into a new mold, hence Project Mew)
The staff were specifically "scolded" over Chloe's lack of screentime
The result of this gen 8 change primarily was shown in Project Mew with the random Urshifus, but there was also Sinnoh to shill at the time so they had to kick the can even further down the road
As soon as the BDSP special was done, we got Allister, Marnie, more Leon, Grookey ep, etc.
However, imo they didn't go far enough

Yeah, I remember reading about the scrapped PoGo storyline. I seriously don't know why that got thrown out in favor of the catch-a-thons. There was an actual story there, and it just got kicked to the curb. Especially since Goh is a rep for Pokemon GO, so you'd think they'd want to promote some of the events and other stuff that can be done in the app.

It's doubly disappointing for me since I like Goh and feel like he would've been a more popular character if he would've been doing some PoGo stuff rather than just catching random Pokemon.

The primary reason is that it's kept mostly private; I wouldn't be surprised if TPC doesn't actually know about it yet
I don't actually know who the primary source is; my guess is that it's someone from TV Tokyo because these guys get the magazines and press releases several days in advance sometimes as well; TV Tokyo is the only division(to my knowledge) of the production staff with the reach of all of this stuff as they make the merch and coordinate stuff like that
However, I've heard a few details that seem to contradict this notion; I can't repeat them here or really anywhere because they have people browsing all of this stuff looking for leaks ironically enough

A win for Iris over Cynthia would be bring her that much closer to a dragon master. That is something to take in consideration. Ash will get his big ascension when he beats Leon, as he is caonically the strongest trainer in canon. Iris beating Cynthia's would be hers.
