Ash is the first trainer ever in his career that best reminds him of himself, and thus, it's only fitting that Leon effectively loses to someone that truly "gets" him (I.E. an undying love of all Pokemon and an eager drive to keep pursuing new peaks even when there don't seem to be anymore to pursue).
If Leon beats Ash, that blackpills Leon that he'll never escape his self-made hell and he truly has pinnacled, the only threat in his entire career being Eternatus, but they can't bring out Eternatus again without threatening Galar as a whole, so he shouldn't concern himself with that goal.
Ash is beating Leon to reignite that spark of hope and drive in him again, inspiring him to keep climbing even higher and remind him of his love of Pokemon above all else.
