The anime just doesn't focus on humans and their relationships that much at all. Honestly, rewatching from the scratch I found solace in the Kotone/Lyra arc in DP, not even because she shipped herself and Dawn with Ash, but because it was a breath of fresh air for a character that isn't Brock to talk to other characters about things other than Pokemon.
In any case, Misty/Ash fans can be happy for having the only jealousy moments from Ash in the whole series, having support from voice actors (not even Rocketshipping got that!), and the fact that, apparently, someone on OLM is holding out hope.
